What is a Fraction? : What is a Fraction? A fraction is a ratio of two whole numbers. E.g. 4/5 4 is the numerator 5 is the denominator If the denominator is greater than numerator , then it is called an improper fraction.

Equivalent fractions : Equivalent fractions 3/4 , 6/8 , 9/12 , 12/16 , 15/20 The process of dividing the numerator and the denominator by the same whole number is called simplifying When a fraction has been simplified and can be simplified no more , the fraction is said to be in its lowest possible terms.

Mixed fraction : Mixed fraction A mixed fraction is a mix of a whole number and a fraction E.g. 1 ½ To convert a mixed fraction into an improper fraction 1 ½ = (1*2+1)/2 To convert an improper fraction to a mixed fraction 7/2 = 3 ½ It is written in the form of Q R/D
