CAUSES OF ENGLISH RISE IN INDIA
The main reason for their rise that they created the spirit of self reliance
among the people. They knew if they work hard, they would be able to
get profits. As a results english company became prosperous.
It has rightly been pointed out that the possession of military and financial resourses of bengal gave advantage to english companies. They could sent constant supply of men and money

by attacking the french in the northern areas. French had no real chance
of success against the english even under the best leaders. ,like Napoleon
and Alexander neither could have won the empireof i re of India.
Another cause of english success was their naval supermacy.

The English had their naval base in Bombay. The result was that they could
keep their ships in safety in Bombay A and could start their operations at once
They could also repair their ships . The French had their naval base in Isle
of France which was very far off. The result was that they could not action
immediately.
The English had three important places in India- Calcutta, Madras& Bombay
The result was that even if one of these was conquered by the enemy , the
other two remained. Even if two places was conquered by the enemies
at one time , one place always remained with the English, because three
places are far from each other. All of them cannot be conquered at one time.The French had only one important station
French s h had one station in India in India and that was Pondicherry.The other places like Mahi& Chandenagar could be conquered at one time,& were always at the mercy of English The result was that with fall of Pondicherry , the French lost their all.

The French entered India from the wrong quarter. The Deccan was not fertile.It was unproductive. On the other hand English entered from right quarter. ter.
They started from Bengal.It was very productive soil.
Another mistake of French was that they subordinated the commercial intrest to territorial ambitions. This made French company poor. All their was wasted on wars.On the other hand English always kept their eyes on sea and neglected commerce. the time they wasted

French officers often quarrelled among themselves. They did not work in co-operation.This brought disaster for them.On the other hand English always helped each other, that was the secret for their success.
