Be prepared to infer meaning.
Inference is a vital skill for the Reading and Listening sections. To infer means to understand unstated or unwritten meaning based on certain detail and logic. When you infer an idea, you understand it even though the writer or speaker did not state it directly. An inference is an educated guess based on detail and logic presented.

Be familiar with the standard reading passage outline used on the TOEFL test and be prepared for basic variations.
TOEFL reading passages are organized according to the basic outline for essays in English.
Understanding this organization is essential to all four sections of the TOEFL.
