Slide2 : School’s Goal/Mission Our goal is to provide a conducive, learning environment dedicated to providing high quality standards and achievement, and promoting positive communication and social skills. Technology and resources are utilized to prepare our students for the challenges and skills needed for the future. Our students will possess the skills needed to be contributing members of our multicultural society.
Slide3 : Teaching Philosophy and Methodology Students are actively encouraged to contribute to discussions and learning activities. Technology is a critical component in learning, and each of our teachers is skilled in various programs. Students are grouped to explore issues together and encourage critical thinking skills. Given their rich, diverse backgrounds, students bring unique perspectives and insights to class, which create an environment of acceptance.
Using a multitude of teaching approaches, students will have a chance to learn in an classroom that reflects their unique learning style. The teachers in our school teach the students about respecting themselves and others. Our students are taught in a nurturing environment where communication and understanding are key elements.
Slide4 : School Structure Our students attend classes all year round. The school is on a 45/15 plan which requires students and teachers to be in session for 45 days and then 15 days vacation. Students still attend school for 186 days per calendar year. During most of the breaks, the school is open for enrichment programs, which is conducted by substitute teachers. This type of scheduling keeps students and teachers refreshed and always learning.
Slide5 : Teaching Environment
The teaching environment reflects the use of technology, in addition to
traditional learning where students are taught basic skills and facts. We also encourage learning through play because that is a powerful learning tool.
Slide6 : School Interior Design The interior design of the school will accommodate all students.
· Each classroom will be equipped tables instead of individual desks, to promote cooperative learning among the students.
· Each student will have their own personal computer at the table. This will enhance their learning and comprehension, as well as, promote student growth. It also helps bridge the digital divide gap.
Every classroom will have a Smart board for both teacher and student use.
Slide7 : Curriculum
The curriculum will reflect the NYS standards, goals and objectives. We will focus our curriculum on the Multiple Intelligences in order to tap into every student’s individual learning style. Within the curriculum, we will also focus on technology, foreign languages, and a multicultural perspective. In addition, Differentiated Instruction will be key elements to helping our students achieve academic excellence.
Slide8 : School Learning
Within our classrooms, students will learn to work collaboratively to develop higher order thinking skills. The teachers incorporate the Information Processing Model in order for students to develop their own learning and understanding of concepts.
Slide9 : Local Businesses Schools and their neighboring communities go hand-in-hand. Our school will establish and maintain a good rapport with its community and local businesses. We will work together with organizations like, The Parent Teacher Association, The National Union of Teachers, and local business surrounding the school, to help our school flourish!!
