Grammar: ´not a / any´ : Grammar: ´not a / any´ ´not a / any´ No is a stronger way to say not a or not any. At the beginning of a sentence no is almost alway used.

Slide 4 : Nobody, nothing etc. are used in the same way. Nobody loves me. I‘ve got absolutely nothing to say.

Slide 5 : Before of, we use none, not no. None of his friends like it.

Put in no/none/nobody : Put in no/none/nobody Why can‘t I have toast for breakfast? Because there‘s____bread. 2. ____newspaper tells the whole truth. 3. ____of the people there remembered seeing anything unusual. 4. I‘ve got___patience with people like her.

Put in no/none/nobody : Put in no/none/nobody 5. ___of you care what I think. 6. He had___money,___job and___place to live.

Any (it doesn‘t matter which) : Any (it doesn‘t matter which) Any can mean it doesn‘t matter which. With this meaning, any is common in affirmative sentences. In negative sentences, we can use just any to make this meaning clear.

Any... : Any... Any doctor will tell you that smoking is bad for you. He gets angry with any man who looks at his wife. Come any time you like I don‘t do any work.

Slide 10 : Anybody, anything etc. can be used in the same way. Anybody can swim if they really want to. Can I have something to eat? Of course, take anything you like.

Choose the best word... : Choose the best word... (Any/No) doctor can tell you if you‘ve got flu. Just say (anything/nothing), so we see if the microphone works. Jim tells his problems to (anybody/nobody) who will listen.

Medical Advice : Medical Advice Name several illnesses that keep people from going to work or school. Then, discuss the symptoms for each and remedies and treatments for curing the problem.

You just take some of my mom's herbal tea and drink it four times a day. Believe me. You'll be up and dancing around in no time. Steve: Dancing around in no time, right? Well, I guess. Nothing else seems to be doing the job. Carla: Great. I'll come by your place at 7:30. See you then.

How about the day after tomorrow on Wednesday at 4:00 O'clock? Ronald: Uh. Do you happen to have an opening in the morning? I usually pick up my kids from school around that time. Receptionist: Okay. Um . . . how about Tuesday at 8:00 A.M. or Thursday at 8:15 A.M.? Ronald: Uh, do you have anything earlier, like 7:30? Receptionist: No. I'm sorry. Ronald: Well, in that case, Thursday would be fine. Receptionist: Okay. Could I have your phone number please? Ronald: It's 643-0547. Receptionist: Alright. And what's the nature of your visit? Ronald: Uh . . . Receptionist: Yes sir. Ronald: Well, to tell the truth, I fell from a ladder two days ago while painting my house, and I sprained my ankle when my foot landed in a paint can. I suffered a few scratches on my hands and knees, but I'm most concerned that the swelling in my ankle hasn't gone down yet. Receptionist: Well, did you put ice on it immediately after this happened? Ronald: Well yeah. I just filled the paint can with ice and . . . Receptionist: And so after you removed the paint can . . . Sir, sir, Mr. Schuller, are you still there? Ronald: Well that's part of the problem. Uh, the paint can is still on my foot. Receptionist: Look, Mr. Schuller. Please come in today. I don't think your case can wait.
