The past continuous tense uses: : The past continuous tense uses: To provide the background scene to an action or event (usually in the past simple). We often use the words like while, when and as:
When we want to emphsize the activity without focusing on its completion
Rules : Rules Was/were +verb +ing she was watching the news
Was/were not +verb +ing they wren’t watching the news
Was/were ---+ verb +ing? Were you watching the news?
Used to and would : Used to and would We used to or would : to talk about past repeated actions
Would is unusual in the negative form in yes/no questions
We do not use would with state verbs.
