What is Cyber bullying? : What is Cyber bullying? Cyber bullying Threats or other offensive behavior sent or posted online about an individual for others to see i.e. email or IM or a social networking site that threatens to harm an individual Rumors posted on victims profile or spread online for others to see A fake profile pretending to be the victim Someone Hacking into a victims profile and leaving rude or derogatory comment pretending to be the victim. Basically cyber bullying is harassment that happens online. It can be similar to regular bullying that kids can experience at home or in school but it has the added element of the internet.

How big is this problem : How big is this problem 42 percent of kids have been bullied while online. One in four have had it happen more than once. 35 percent of kids have been threatened online. Nearly one in five have had it happen more than once. 21 percent of kids have received mean or threatening e-mail or other messages. 58 percent of kids admit someone has said mean or hurtful things to them online. More than four out of 10 say it has happened more than once. 58 percent have not told their parents or an adult about something mean or hurtful that happened to them online. Data based on 2004 I-SAFE survey of 1,500 students in grades 4 to 8.

Top six ways to Kill Piper : Top six ways to Kill Piper In May of 2009 the country was shocked by a video posted on you tube entitled the Top Six Ways to Kill Piper The Video was made by a group of 11& 12 year old sixth grade girls about a fellow classmate The mother of the Victim said she was “horrified” by the video The Victim of this incident called her fellow classmates “pure evil”

What Was Done : What Was Done The middle school where this incident occurs said due to privacy issues they cannot release any information on how the bullies were disciplined However the school district did say the girls involved were remorseful over the incident. The victims mother filled a police report but law enforcement declines to pursue any charges

Conclusion : Conclusion This particular incident ended without anyone being harmed however that is not always the case Online Harassment has led some children to commit suicide It can also be attributed to a number of incidents of violence in school Schools should take a harder stance on cyber bullying Parents should educate their children on what to do if they are victims and Parents of the bullies should take steps to ensure that their children change this disruptive behavior
