Social Aspect: Family : Social Aspect: Family Latch-key children Both parents in the work force Single parents High divorce rates ► Students educational needs are not supported at home because of the broken or busy family

Social Aspect: Race & Ethnicity : Social Aspect: Race & Ethnicity Stereotypes Achievement gap Diverse learners Lowered expectations for learners ► Certain groups of students are at a disadvantage because of their race and ethnicity

Social Aspect: Gender : Social Aspect: Gender Differing achievement expectations Higher rates of classifying boys for special education Different learning types and styles for boys versus girls ► Boys and girls are being treated differently and may not be receiving the same opportunities

Social Aspect: Socioeconomic Status : Social Aspect: Socioeconomic Status High predictor of academic achievement Poorer schools are less equipped and have limited access to technology Inner city schools versus suburban schools ► Students from lower socioeconomic communities are at a great disadvantage
