Secure knowledge of the key studies in each topic area. : Secure knowledge of the key studies in each topic area. Whiteboard exercise #2: Open the mindmap for the 8 topic areas we’ve looked at in Psychology and Crime. Use the text tool on the left to type in the names of researchers / concepts for key studies in each area. From there we’ll see how much detail we can add.

Understand Question Requirements : Understand Question Requirements Section A a) Describe / Outline… [6] usually one study. Discuss / Evaluate… [10] usually one issue. Section B Describe… [10] a general topic area. b) Discuss… [16] 4 well developed points. c) Using your knowledge… [8] Application – 4 suggestions.

Appropriate Evaluations : Appropriate Evaluations Think about the study / topic you have described: What are the strengths and weaknesses? Use this as your starting point – eg. A strength of Farrington’s study is that it is longitudinal. Explain why this is a strength – This means that the data can show how criminal behaviour develops over time, which is useful for probation officers etc. in establishing patterns of problem behaviour and intervening earlier.

Appropriate Evaluations cont’d : Appropriate Evaluations cont’d Compare or Contrast - IN CONTRAST Bandura’s studies were all snapshots which demonstrate social learning effectively, but do not show if the effects are longterm and therefore can not predict a ‘criminal career’. Make your comment: This means that longitudinal studies are a more valid measurement of social explanations for crime, as they measure actual patterns of behaviour rather than just those seen in the experimental setting.

Confidence Level : Confidence Level How confident (1-10) are you that you can achieve this? How confident were you to begin with? 1 I am more confident I could grow wings overnight and fly. 10 I am the reason they invented A*
