Title: Examining Gibson’s ‘Passion,’ the Da Vinci Code, and the Didache for Clues Regarding Lost Secrets
Synopsis: Three works have captured the popular imagination: (a) Mel Gibson’s “Passion of Christ,” (b) Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, and (c) Aaron Milavec’s The Didache. Each of these works claims to reveal aspects of earliest Christianity that have been lost (or even deliberately concealed) from ordinary Christians. What are these claims? Are they history or fiction? How does one decide?
Aaron Milavec, Professor Emeritus, served as a seminary and university professor for twenty-five years. He currently chairs a new program unit of the national Society of Biblical Literature, "The Didache in Context." His website, www.Didache.info, promotes research and exchange on issues of the early church. His thousand-page commentary, The Didache: Faith, Hope, and Life of the Earliest Christian Communities, 50-70 C.E., received a 2004 Catholic Press Association award recognizing the best books in theology.
