Slide 2 : Silences –Tsankawi
By Nancy Wood
Out therein the Cave of remembrances on the mesa where the sandstone footsteps wear a path of wonder in the mind. I Heard my first silence.
It was merely a pinpoint of stillness , isolated from the desert wind and the sound of my own breathing
In Silence I heard the whisper of ancient people making robes and grinding corn as if it were a matter of Life to them.
In their muffled words, I recognized the shadows of my own Language, Not even spoken by my children anymore.
I heard these ancient people telling tales of visitors from the south, carrying parrots and of the time they first saw the sun grow dark at noon.
In this silence I learned much about the silences that nature gives to remind us of our nothingness.

Slide 8 : Homework
Practice you grounding and Center and picture you “safe spot”. Write a overview of what you experienced.. Or why you think you didn’t.
Do a “ritual” bath
Clear and Bless/empower an object – this can be a crystal/stone, a ritural tool or a piece of Jewelry.
A further project we hope you will begin stemming from this class is to gather information on Gods and Goddesses – and the totems so that you will have it available for reference as needed. This can consist of a collection of books, or of notes you take from books and other sources. It will probably be a combination of the two. This is very important eventually and the sooner you begin, the easier it is.
Slide 9 : Example ATHENE (ATHENA, PALLAS ATHENA): Perpetual Virgin Goddess and traditionally the Goddess of Wisdom, but especially of practical Wisdom, more the Goddess of the “how to” type of knowledge. One gets the impression that She is as much a Goddess of Combat as Ares, and She was often invoked prior to Combat, and Her standard was often carried into Battle. She is the Goddess of domestic arts and crafts, the Patron of Artists and workers in the finer crafts. She is a Patroness of Virgins, along with Artemis
She is especially the Patroness of spinning and weaving, often being symbolized by the Distaff. Her especial symbol was the Owl, symbol of Wisdom. She is a very important Goddess and is often involved in the partisan rivalry with other Gods and Goddesses, spilling over into human affairs. She is often invoked as the Patroness of Cities, e.g. Athens, which bears Her name. She is often pictured with the warrior’s helmet and with the spear. She is said to have sprung, full armed and mature, from the brain of Her Father, Zeus. She is a perpetual Virgin Goddess, though She may have had a dalliance now and then. It is said by some that Zeus tried to ally and mate her with Hephaistos, but that for some reason consummation was not achieved, and that in the attempt, Hephaistos fell out of heaven, plummeting to Earth and injuring His one leg, which left Him ever thereafter lame and with a slight limp. I have the impression that Athene is a patroness of divination arid scrying.
