In our minds, our topic title would be “Employment and family reconciliation: a comparative analysis on Estonia and Lithuania” Research Question: How have Estonia and Lithuania policy regulations affected individuals’ options for combining employment and care duties? What are the difference of Soviet era and transition concerning work and family? What are the differences on individual strategies? Are all parents equal? Are country specific legislations and benefits supporting gender equality when it comes to reconciliation of work and care? Structure: 1. Literature review 2. History of women position in reconciling work and household duties. Comparison on different generations or/and depict historical evolution of this phenomenon due to the 50 years of Soviet era for both countries. We take also into consideration the role of religion – Estonia has no state religion, Lithuania is catholic. 3. Methodology: we are going to use the local statistical data to compare the situation of female employment fluctuation over the years. Also the data on births and child care institutions. Including the policies on employment and family as the base of society. The research will be concentrating on middle class or poor women because it is a matter of great relevance to our societies. Also the emphasis of composition of family makes a great difference. We are going to study and compare the situation of “traditional families” and single parent’s families. group #3 Gecyte, Janusonyte, Tüür Gender Proposal
