Will interactive literacy websites and e-books motivate fifth grade students to read? : Will interactive literacy websites and e-books motivate fifth grade students to read? By: Hoying Lo (Vivian)

School Statistics : School Statistics There are a total of 940 students and 67 teachers in the school. In the class I worked in there are 28 students and 2 teachers. Sixty percent of the students were general ed. and 40% were special ed.

The Problem : The Problem Fifth graders not motivated in reading Constant distraction from other students Students are not interested in reading material

Overview : Overview Pre – Study was given to each student Students’ participation in the Internet activities Students each having an opportunity to read an e – book. After their experiences, they will take a post – study survey

Research Questions : Research Questions Will interactive Internet activities such as www.Internet4classrooms.com and www.newton.k12.ks.us/tech/fifth_grade_internet_activities1.htm students to complete reading related skills/activities? Will electronic book sites like www.storylineonline.net motivate students to read more?

Result of Study : Result of Study After the implementation of the study, several students seem more involved in there reading. The talking in class during independent reading was less then before. Students were interested in participating in the activities and e-books again.

Action Plan : Action Plan I would tell other teachers about the Internet literacy sites and e-books sites or software for students who are not reading motivated. I would ask the principal to have more computers in the classrooms, therefore, students have more opportunities for literacy related Internet activities.
