Why English?http://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/search/label/Why%20English : http://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com Why English?http://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/search/label/Why%20English In today’s multi-cultural, multi-linguistic global world, the presence of a common media of communication becomes extremely important. And one such media is the English language. English unites people across the globe, facilitating a smooth exchange, not only of ideas and information, but also of goods and services. Almost all Universities, Institutions and organizations are conducting Examinations and entry-level tests to gauge the candidates ability to communicate in English.

Confidence Levelhttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/2009/05/confidence-level.html : http://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com Confidence Levelhttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/2009/05/confidence-level.html A clear throat A smiling face Glitter in the eyes Pauses at the right places

Slanghttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/search/label/slang : http://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com Slanghttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/search/label/slang Slang as a language is socially less acceptable than standard English as slangs is associated with a specific social group. Again, slang keeps on evolving and constantly changing. For instance, the slang word barf...meaning vomit can be used as: “He had to barf because he drank too much alcohol.”

Order of Introductionshttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/2009/01/errors-in-introductions.html : http://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com Order of Introductionshttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/2009/01/errors-in-introductions.html When you are the host, you must follow this unsaid sequence in which introductions are made in a formal/ informal gathering: 1. The younger acquaintance is introduced to the older one2. The non-official is introduced to the Official3. The Junior-Executive is introduced to the Senior- Executive4. The Colleague is introduced to the Customer/ Client

Mistakes in Introductionshttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/2009/04/order-of-introductions.html : http://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com Mistakes in Introductionshttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/2009/04/order-of-introductions.html Mistakes while making Introductions Different people INTRODUCE themselves differently. But some errors just creep in every time.... The most glaring one being:Myself Mr. ABC,...Please understand that we should not use "myself" for introductions. The better way out is "I am.." Again, we never address ourselves as "Mr./Ms". We introduce ourselves with just our name. “I am Namrata Arora.....”would sound a proper introduction than“Myself Miss Namrata Arora...”

Body Languagehttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/search/label/Body%20Language : http://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com Body Languagehttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/search/label/Body%20Language Kinesic Communication The Non-Verbal form of Communication encompasses almost everything from facial expressions and gestures to body signals..Ever guessed what a minor turn of your eye brow could imply... Try frowning or raising one of them to express surprise - seems funny but stand in front of the mirror and enjoy the scene

Body Languagehttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/search/label/Body%20Language : http://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com Body Languagehttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/search/label/Body%20Language Capturing Expressions There are certain expressions we notice on other people's faces and we love to describe them. Here are a few:1. GAPE: to look at something for a long time, especially with your mouth open, because you are very surprised or shocked2. SMIRK: to smile in an unpleasant way that shows that you are pleased by the other's bad luck or think you are better than other people

Cultural Differences In Communicationhttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/2009/04/cultural-differences-in-communication.html : http://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com Cultural Differences In Communicationhttp://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com/2009/04/cultural-differences-in-communication.html In a famous book on Shogun Management, the author brings out the differences in the level of communication of the Americans and the Japanese at the work place. He elaborates how the Americans believe in fully expressing their thoughts and that too verbally; any vacuum in speech disturbs them and is highly unwelcome. On the other hand, the Japanese pick up Non-Verbal cues and give importance to silent contemplation during discussions and meetings.

Session 1 on English My Language : http://englishmylanguage.blogspot.com Session 1 on English My Language In the first session on ‘English My Language’, the participants read aloud texts on various topics and then, assessed their own speech. The listeners were also asked to comment on the speaker’s Confidence Level, Articulation and his/her Attitude towards the English Language. It was observed that if English is considered as a foreign language, something alien, the speaker tends to get conscious of how and what he speaks, and these inhibitions are clearly visible to any listener. In fact, a slight tremble in the voice, a word or even an “a” or “s” left out, a frown on the face or the excessive movement of the hands, all exhibit the attitude of the speaker towards the language.
