Marriage and Family : Marriage and Family Lesson 6
Slide 2 : Love ever gives.
Forgives, outlives,
And ever stands
With open hands.
And while it lives,
It gives,
For this is love's prerogative--
To give, and give, and give.
Sincerity in love. : Sincerity in love. Many times in marriage we cease to talk about love and cease to practice it in sincerity.
Love is not an emotion it is a conscious decision.
I John 3:16,18 (Amp.)
16By this we come to know (progressively to recognize, to perceive, to understand) the [essential] love: that He laid down His [own] life for us; and we ought to lay [our] lives down for [those who are our] brothers [in Him]… 18Little children, let us not love [merely] in theory or in speech but in deed and in truth (in practice and in sincerity).
Three levels of love. : Three levels of love. The lowest form of love, eros, says, “I want you therefore I love you.”
Second one says, “I need you, therefore I love you.” =Lust, disguised as noble.
Highest form says, “You need me therefore I love you.”
Slide 5 : The first kind of love that attracts us is eros but we must move past, that to Agape.
Agape- God-kind of love. Selfless, self sacrificing. Loves even when a person decides that they don’t want to be loved. Loves the unworthy, is not self seeking. Doesn’t ask, “What can I get?”
Love is more than what one feels but what one does.
I Cor 13:4 Love accepts imperfections.
Love is not built on emotions. Emotions are important but love must be an action. : Love is not built on emotions. Emotions are important but love must be an action. Love is giving.
Love is doing
When you stop giving it, you stop receiving it.
