Lesson 7 The Gas Phase : SAT II PREP Lesson 7 The Gas Phase Gases Laws Measuring pressure Dalton’s Boyle’s Charles’ Ideal gas manometer barometer Graham’s Avogadro’s Kinetic moleculary theory P1V1 = P2V2 V1/T1 = V2/T2 Ptot = PA + PB + PC Or PA = Ptot •XA 1mole/22.4L @ STP PV = nRT Calculate density (g/L) Calculate molar mass (g/mol) Open Closed

Lesson 7 The Gas Phase : SAT II PREP Lesson 7 The Gas Phase 5 assumptions of KMT: Gase are made up of particles whose volumes are negligible compared to the container volume. Gas atoms or molecules exhibit no intermolecular attractions or repulsions. Gas particles are in continuous, random motion, undergoing collisions with other particles and with the container walls. Collisions between any two gas particles are elastic, meaning that no energy is dissipated or, equivalently, that kinetic energy is conserved. The average kinetic energy of gas particles is proportional to the absolute temperature of the gas, and is the same for all gases at given temperature.

Lesson 7 The Gas Phase : Lesson 7 The Gas Phase **remember at any given temperature the particles in a gas will be moving at different speeds.
