Abstract : Abstract Collected data to determine case study group Met for 20 minutes a day 3 days a week for 5 weeks Used Spelling in Parts strategy with spelling words 1 day a week Children blogged about their interests 2 days a week Analyzed pre and post instruction spelling inventory, surveys, and writing samples Devised action plan

School Environment : School Environment White 90 % ,Hispanic 6 % , Asian/Pacific Islander 3 %, Black < 1 % , American Indian/Alaskan Native < 1 % 23% Students eligible for reduced price lunch 882 students - Male 52%, Female 48% Public School

Case Study Group : Case Study Group Grade 5 students 5 participants 3 girls, 2 boys 80% White, 20% Hispanic Middle class SES General education

Student Needs : Student Needs 5th graders require additional spelling skills. Students need authentic writing opportunities. Students must use learned skills independently.

Research Questions : Research Questions Will a spelling in parts strategy increase spelling performance of 5th grade students in a general education classroom? Will creating a classroom blog motivate 5th grade students in a general education classroom to become better, more confident spellers?
