Virtual EE Study Group-Episode 2 Discussion Guide
1 Discussion Notes Session 2: My Life Can Change Begin by watching the intro video with Kyle Idleman that accompanies session two. (1:12) Connecting to One Another Answer the following questions before watching the DVD. • What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever said? o Was it hurtful to others? o Was it humiliating to you? o Did it cost you something? If so, what? • If you could go back in time and undo a mistake what would you change and why? Changing into the Likeness of Christ In Session Two: My Life Can Change, we follow the betrayal and arrest of Jesus while focusing on the actions of both Judas and Peter. Before watching the video, open your Bibles and read aloud Luke 22:1-6 and 47-62. • What do you find most interesting about these passages? • Why do we find it easier to identify with Peter than Judas? In what ways are you like these two men? Watch Easter Experience: Session Two – Your Life Can Change (28:47) • Have you ever felt hopeless because of a personal mistake? How did you get through that experience? What role did the Lord play? What is one example of a healthy way to handle feelings of hopelessness? • What is similar about Judas’ and Peter’s betrayal of Jesus? How are they very different? • Do you ever feel controlled by your past mistakes? What advice would you give for overcoming this? Prayer Idea After taking prayer requests pray for the burdens that members of your group bear. Pray that they allow the example of Peter to influence their future choices in combating hopelessness and guilt. Pray that God would fill them with joy that comes through repentance. the easter experience2 Cultivating a Missional Life-Taking Your Experience Home During the coming week, read and memorize 2 Corinthians 7:10 NIV “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.” The Message of Peter and Judas at the first Easter is our message today. “There are no hopeless situations; there are only people who have grown hopeless about them.” Clare Boothe Luce • Consider the routes that both men decided to follow after making huge mistakes and consider for yourself what you will do if you find yourself in an equally severe situation. • Confess your sin to our Almighty and Merciful Lord. • Do not let your sorrow grow into remorse: overwhelming regret that can dissolve all hope. Let your confession and sorrow lead you to repentance: turning away from sin while seeking His forgiveness. As on the first Easter, the Lord is saying to you today: • You’ve made some mistakes but I can still use you. • When you are ready for real, lasting change, turn everything over to Me. • “Just come home” – where Grace, Mercy, Peace and Love are waiting for you. • Finish Strong Notes ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ If you need more tips and materials for running a successful Easter Experience group, be sure to come back to www.easterexperience.com for additional helpful materials!
