Number Series : Dr Madhava Rao Number Series

Introducton : Introducton Weightage in I-CET 8-10 questions Identification of pattern

Number series : Number series Difference Product Squares/Cubes Prime/Composite Combination Counting Miscellaneous

Difference Series : Difference Series Ex-1: 2, 4, 6, __, 10, 12 Difference: +2 +2 +? +2 Ex-2 1, 4, 8, __, 19, 26 Difference: +3 +4 +? +? +7

Solve 1st 5 problems in Hand out : Solve 1st 5 problems in Hand out

Example-3 : Example-3 115, 114, 112, 109, ___, 100, 94 Diff: -1 -2 -3 -? -? -6

Example-4 : Example-4 1, 7, 3, 11, 5, 15, __, 19, 9 Combination of two series Odd numbers and Prime numbers

Product series : Product series The differences will be increasing or decreasing. Example-5 1, 3, 9, __, 81 Example-6 2, 4, 8, ___, 32

Some basic series : Some basic series Even numbers 2, 4, 6, 8…….. Odd numbers 1, 3, 5, 7……. Prime numbers 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17….. Composite numbers 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 16…..

Example-7 : Example-7 1/5, 3/10, ___, 7/20, 9/25 Numerator is one series (Odd numbers) Denominator is another series Numerator: 1, 3, 5, ___, 9 Denominator: 5, 10, ___, 20, 25.

Solve Examples 8 to 15 in the handout : Solve Examples 8 to 15 in the handout

Example-10 : Example-10 3, 11, 5, 13, 7, __, 9, 19, 11, 23 Combination of two series First Series: 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 Second Series: 11, 13, __, 19, 23

Example- 11 : Example- 11 7/4, 13/8, __, 49/32, 97/64 Two separate series in the numerator and denominator The differences are increasing in both the series 7, 13, ___, 49, 97 x2-1 x2-1 Denominator is a simple product series starting with 4

Example-13 : Example-13 3, 5, 9, 17, __, 71 Increasing differences Could be a product series 3x2-1 =5 5x2-1 =9 9x2-1= 17 and 17x2-1 = 33

Example-14 : Example-14 2, 4, 12, 48, __, 1440 The differences are increasing Product series 2x2=4 4x3=12 12x4=48 48x?= and ?x6=1440

Example-15 : Example-15 2, 3, 3, 9, 4, 27, __, 81, 6, 243 At first glance, there is no pattern Product series : 3, 9, 27, 81, 243 Combination series 2, 3, 4, __ is other series
