ACTION OF ALCOHOL ON BRAIN The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a membranic structure that acts primarily to protect the brain from chemicals in the blood.Alcohol is a very small particle and is soluble in fat as well as water solutions. Because of these properties, alcohol gets into the bloodstream very easily and also crosses the blood brain barrier. Alcohol affects brain chemistry by altering levels of chemical messengers that transmit the signals throughout the body that control thought processes, behavior and emotion. : ACTION OF ALCOHOL ON BRAIN The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a membranic structure that acts primarily to protect the brain from chemicals in the blood.Alcohol is a very small particle and is soluble in fat as well as water solutions. HOW ALCOHOL AFFECTS LIVER : HOW ALCOHOL AFFECTS LIVER Alcohol generally leads to three pathologically distinct liver diseases. All of these three conditions can occur together, at the same time, in the same patient. These three conditions are:
Fatty liver: Alcohol abuse can lead to the accumulation of fat within liver cells.
Hepatitis: Alcohol can cause acute and chronic hepatitis.
Cirrhosis: Cirrhosis is characterized anatomically by widespread nodules in the liver combined with fibrosis. Cirrhosis can lead to end-stage liver disease.
