TIME MANAGEMENT( Tips for XII Physics board exam)
TIME MANAGEMENT
The trick is to stay ahead of time. Different students adopt different approaches but the objective is essentially similar. We subconsciously tend to classify questions into easy ones, more difficult questions and the confusing ones. What we take up first depends on our preparation, level of confidence and of course temperament.
The first hour is crucial because at the end of it you should always check if you are ahead of time. If there are questions carrying 70 marks to be answered in 3 hours, the attempt should be to finish questions carrying around 25 marks in the first hour itself.
Students often get stuck on conceptual questions. They need to be understood properly and answered precisely
Do not get stuck on questions carrying one or two
marks. Examiners do not expect you to give more than one or two minutes to them. So, if you are not sure, leave some space and move forward—which will enable you to return to them after you are through with what you are confident about.
CBSE / ISC
70 Marks 3 hours
TARGET : each hour-- questions carrying approximately 25 marks
In first two hours the target should be higher because even if the target is not met one knows that there is some extra time in hand. ALSO the first few questions are mostly conceptual where the tendency of the students is to get stuck.
CBSE
If you start from Q1
1st hour Q1—Q16—24 marks That means at the end of first hour you should have answered upto Q16
What if you are lagging behind?
DON’T PANIC
REASON : YOU HAVE EXTRA TIME.
Also the longer questions in next sections are more descriptive and direct questions which are easier to answer.
2nd hour Q17—25-----25 Marks
At the end of 2nd hour upto Q25
The rest in the third hour
If you start from Q30
1st hour—Q 30—25--------25 marks At the end of 1st hour upto Q25
2nd hour---Q24----16------24 marks At the end of 2nd hour upto Q 16
3rd hour ----the rest
I.SC
1ST hour----Q 1+ half of one question from sec A
2nd hour---section A completed and a part of one question from section B
3rd hour –the rest
SELECTION OF QUESTIONS
Not much of scope in CBSE paper
I.sc
Numericals no doubt fetches more marks only if solved properly.
If a question with numericals is chosen over a theory based question then numerical should be solved first and then the rest
MARKING SCHEME
Numerical questions
Question carrying three marks
Roughly 1 mark for correct formula and substituting correct value. This is the most important step
Approximately 1 mark for answer with proper unit
Theoretical questions
A question carrying 3 marks
If it involves a circuit diagram then marks for that will be approximately one
Description of components are not required
Eg. Describe a method how a potentiometer can be used to compare the emf of two cells
In this 1 mark will be given for a correct circuit diagram
While answering you need to give the formula.
Describe the procedure as you have done in practical
In I.SC answering scheme usually part marking is avoided. That is if a question carries 1 mark where in two facts are required then generally full marks is given if both the facts are there
GENERAL APPROACH
Create an impression by keeping the answer script neat. Handwriting may be good or bad but too much scratching gives a wrong impression if at all required striked out the part using a single line across
If a conceptual question has to be explained on the basis of a formula then it is better to mention that. Eg. Q : what will be the nature of electric potential at a place where the electric field is zero. Instead of simply writing that it will be constant it is better to mention that E=-dv/dr thus E=0 means v is constant
Not getting stuck
Common mistakes
Not writing the Q.no properly. For I.SC section should be mentioned
Not writing units properly
Not leaving a line in between two answers. Sometimes this help you later if you want to add a few words
