Description
This session will showcase some of web 2.0 tools available for English Language Teachers. Many activities can be adapted from the print form to the digital form. A few web 2.0 tools will be described and discussed with a focus on using them with students for learning English. One web tool, Glogster has been quite interesting for students and me. The Glogster also lists many teachers creating and using glogs in their classes. My students have used Glogster for an assignment on prepositions. In the session, Dr. Devi will discuss how the activity has been adapted for the digital ESL assignment. A must class for English teachers and those interested in going beyond the classroom by using the Internet to facilitate instruction and learning.

The Glogster also lists many teachers creating and using glogs in their classes. My students have used Glogster for an assignment on prepositions. How the activity has been adapted for the digital ESL assignment will be discussed.

Bio… : Bio… Dr. V.Anitha Devi, Assistant Professor Sr., SSL, VIT University has implemented the use of English Language Laboratory, and a complete lab course in the M.Tech programme. She has been adept in training teachers to use technology in language classes. Research interests: Web 2.0, Language, Educational Psychology, Culture,  Literature and CALL.

Activity : Activity Topic: Prepositions (Simple and Compound) Explanation : 20 mins. Exercise: Handouts 5 mins. Discussion: answers and feedback 10 mins. Assignment: Click photos (Ex: focus on objects & people) Type the passage in *.doc/*.txt @lab. Transfer files to teacher console HiClass. Creation of Glogs on Glogster: 10-15 minutes for each group Internet is not available to all students @ the lab or personally they have limited access. I decided to use the intranet facility. 30 /60 students can do the activity on word, particularly the passage. They were allowed to use two systems with internet. Some students had internet @ home/ hostel and they could do it.

PowerPoint Presentation : Activity B has been adapted with web 2.0 The students used mobiles to click Photographs and Bluetooth to transfer the file. They wrote short passages on the picture. Web 2.0 :Assessment & Learning : Web 2.0 :Assessment & Learning Checks learning to decide what to do next Helps both teachers and students. Learning in real life situations. Students discuss in groups. Conversations are built. Descriptive feedback and of course marks were awarded for task completion and quality of the glog. Students show improvement. They learn the correct forms in grammar. This activity cannot be done without a group of students.

Web 2.0 tool & Bloom’s Taxonomy : Web 2.0 tool & Bloom’s Taxonomy Technology does not offer any quick solutions for addressing higher level thinking. The teacher is ultimately the one who determines what students do with the tools provided.
