Session title:
Place Shape vs. Place Value: A visual foundation for math

Description:
What do decimal place values actually mean: thousands, hundreds, tens, ones? Let us show you their shape and you can determine the value. Four- and five-year-olds can do it, how ‘bout you? Get a glimpse into the fantabulous payoff of learning to subQuan. Come enjoy a math topic that doesn’t involve much thinking because your eyes do most of the work.

Dream Realizations is a 501(c)(3) Educational Support Services Organization designed to facilitate colleges, universities, and other entities in need of virtual world math support. We offer classes, training, and research design. Visit our website:

D. Cooper Patterson, aka Cooper Macbeth, is our rogue cognitive engineer. He doesn’t know how to think in a box, because he never had one. With an Electrical Engineering background and 20 years in Silicon Valley solving complex computer problems, Cooper is ready to take on the difficulties plaguing the U.S. educational system: mathematics. Our resident R&D man, Second Life scripter and builder, and all around good guy.

Rebecca Reiniger, aka Ute Frenburg, is our creative educational coordinator and founder of Dream Realizations. She is passionate about her desire to help people realize that they can see. With a background in math and German teaching and 10 years observing education from K-12, she can see a bigger picture of the implications of not understanding mathematics.

Anne-Marie Robertson, aka Alexsis Kamala, is our intrepid educational technologist. With a background in accounting, mathematics education, and online teaching, she boldly pushes the boundaries, extracts clarity from her team, and exudes a love of learning that is unsurpassed.
