Good afternoon Honourable judges, my worthy opponents, ladies and gentlemen of the audience. I rise to defend the moot, be it resolved that Humans are magnificent.
Let me first define some key terms in the moot so that you can understand it the way we understand it, the way it should be understood.
The Oxford Dictionary offers these definitions: Humans are the race of people living on the earth. The word “humans” is a collective one. So whatever we say about humans should be characteristic humans as a group. Whatever we say about humans should be something that is shared by all or many humans. To single out small groups of humans would be a poor way to reason. [analogy]
This is not to say we cannot use examples, but these examples must be typical, not exceptional.
The word magnificent means
Now magnificent does not mean a thing must be perfect. Listen to all these synonyms.... not one word here means perfect or flawless, Not one word is in the superlative. [analogy] car, titanic
And I should point out from the beginning that a thing can be both magnificent and destructive at the same time. [analogy] Snow Capped mountan/avalanche.
So the moot restated reads like this; Human beings; people are noble, good, brilliant.
Description
Summarize the main arguments presented for the case that humans are magnificent.
