History of Potomac : History of Potomac Potomac College was founded in 1991. Residential campuses in the Washington, DC area. Offers both residential programs and online courses. Potomac College is unique in its devotion to one goal—the needs of the working adult.

Accreditation : Accreditation Potomac College is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher education. (www.msche.org) Accreditation helps serve as a quality assurance to students Our accrediting body also accredits other notable schools, such as Princeton, New York University, Georgetown University, Columbia University and other institutions.

Degree Programs : Degree Programs Certificates These programs provide vocational skills for career pathways into entry and mid-level positions for a wide variety of public and private business sectors. Certificate programs will develop marketable skills for positions such as office administration, computer applications support, finance (accounts receivable & payroll), business accounting, computer security, and global business economics. AssociateWith an Associates degree and training from Potomac College, you will be laying a foundation at school for your future career. Your courses will broaden your knowledge of industry-related language and common office procedures. Bachelor Potomac’s Bachelor of Science programs allow students the chance to compete their degree in health information, technology, and cyber security in programs that combinetheory and applied research. Within each degree program, a common core of courses provides a solid foundation for work in that field. This core is complemented by a series of courses in specialized areas to enable each student to pursue a program of studies that will provide enhanced professional and personal growth.

Accounting Degree Program : Accounting Degree Program Overview An increase in the number of businesses, changing financial laws, and corporate governance regulations, and increased accountability for protecting an organization’s stakeholders will drive growth in the Accounting field. The program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in public accounting firms and similarly challenging positions in private, governmental and nonprofit organizations. Employment Trends – The Accounting field is poised for strong growth: 21% of wage and salary accountants worked for accounting, tax preparation, bookkeeping, and payroll services firms. Employment of accountants is expected to grow by 18 percent between 2006 and 2016, which is faster than the average for all occupations. According to a salary survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, bachelor’s degree candidates in accounting received starting offers averaging $46,718 a year in 2006. Government Contract Management Degree Program : Government Contract Management Degree Program Overview Designed to train and prepare students for careers in government contracting and the various activities of government contract implementation in private and public companies, city and county governments, and nonprofit organizations. Knowing and thoroughly understanding the numerous, diverse and often complicated laws and regulations that are related to government’s many processes and procedures is absolutely necessary if you choose to work with and manage government contracts. Employment Trends The number of jobs is projected to grow as fast as average for all occupations – 12% over the 2006-2016 decade. Positions are described as contract officers. Many job openings will stem from the need to replace workers who transfer to other jobs, retire, or leave the occupation for other reasons. Earnings Potential – The average income in 2007 for contract management professionals ranged from $74,000 to $117,000 per year.

Security Management Degree Program : Security Management Degree Program Overview This program consists of extensive courses in computer networking and Internet security. These courses address protocols used to access and transfer information over both public and private networks. Basic loss prevention concepts, implementing a complete security program, and protecting and assessing information assets are included in the course of studies. Program components in computer forensics include tracking offenders, hiding data, encryption, and computer investigation. Employment Trends Employment of computer and information systems managers is expected to grow 16 percent over the 2006-16 decade, which is faster than average for all occupations. New applications of technology in the workplace will continue to drive demand for workers, fueling the need for more managers. Management Degree Program : Management Degree Program Overview Potomac College’s Management program provides the theoretical foundation for the student to successfully accomplish the business objectives of an organization by the effective management of scarce resources - capital, human, and physical. This program focuses on utilizing information as a resource for a company or organization. It also deals with the manager’s important role in collecting, analyzing, recording and presenting the necessary market data during the corporate decision making process. Employment Trends Employment of management analysts is expected to grow 22 percent over the decade (2006-16), much faster than the average for all occupations, as industry and government increasingly rely on outside expertise to improve the performance of their organizations. Job growth is projected in very large consulting firms with international expertise and in smaller consulting firms that specialize in specific areas, such as biotechnology, health care, information technology, human resources, engineering, and marketing.
