SER– to be : SER– to be Use SER to refer to a permanent, or relatively permanent, condition. SER:

ESTAR– to be : ESTAR– to be Use ESTAR to refer to a temporary or current condition. ESTAR:
describes location (“My wallet is in my purse.”)
describes emotions and physical conditions (I am tired, happy, sad, sick)
