Types of Systematic Troubleshooting : Types of Systematic Troubleshooting Bottom Up Approach Start at physical layers Many problems are Layer 1, but can be time consuming Top-Down Approach Start at the application layer Must find the problem application (lower layer problems can mask as upper layer problems) Divide-and-Conquer Approach Decide which layer to start, troubleshoot both directions Need user input to decide where to begin Success at one layer may indicate success at other layers
