LOCUSTS AND DARKNESS Shemot 10.12-23 oÎ hִrַ¿ mְnִ .rֶtֶÀ־kgַ lָà sְhָ vyֵ¿ bְ vJֶ֗¶n־ktֶ sà rnֶt¶H¿uַ 12 kÎ fַt¶huְ ohִrָmְ֑nִ .rֶtֶÉ־kgַ kgַhַuְ֖ vCֶº rְtַCָ rhtִJְ֖vִ rJֶËֲt־kFָ ,tֵÁ .rֶtָº vָ cGֶgֵÉ־kFָ־,tֶ o¸hִrַ¸mְnִ .rֶtֶÉ־kgַ UÔvYֵÔnַ־,tֶ vJֶɶn yHֵ¿uַ 13 :srָCָvַ tUvvַ֖ oIHvַË־kFָ .rֶtָº Cָ oÎ hsִeָ־jַUr dvַÀִb vuָ֗¶vhuַ tGָ֖bָ ohsִº Eָvַ jַÎ Ur¿ uְ vhָºvָ reֶ¶CÉַv vkָhְKָvַ֑־kfָuְ .rֶtֶÉ־kFָ kgַÊ vCֶ֗rְtַvָ kgַHַuַÉ 14 :vCֶrְtַvָ־,tֶ uhbָÆָpkְÆ s¶tº nְ scֵÉָF ohִrָmְ֑nִ kUcÉְD k¶fCְ֖ jbַHָÈַu ohִrַº mְnִ :iFֵ־vhֶvְhִ t¶kË uhrָjֲ֖tַuְ Uv¶nº Fָ vÎ Cֶrְtַ ifֵÀ vhָvָ¿ ־t¶k kfַt¶HÃuַ .¸rֶtָ¸vָ lְJַÉְj,ֶuַ .ÔrֶtָÔvָ־kFָ ihgֵÉ־,tֶ xfַÄhְuַ 15 rJֶËֲt .gֵº vָ hrִÉְP־kFָ ,Î tֵuְ .rֶtָ֗vָ cGֶgֵÉ־kFָ־,tֶ cGֶgֵËְcU .gֵÁָC erֶhֶ־ÍkFָ r,ַ¿ Ib־t¶kuְ srָCָ֑vַ rh,ִI֖v v¶gº rְPַ rvֵÉַnhְuַ 16 :ohִrָmְnִ .rֶtֶË־kfָCְ vsֶ¬ָ֖vַ wsÁַk h,ִtyָÁָj rnֶt¶H֗uַ i¶rvֲ֑tַkְU vJֶɶnkְ t¶reְ֖kִ lְtַÉ hÎ,ִtYָjַ tbָÀtGָÉ v,ָ֗gַuְ 17 :ofֶkָuְ ofֶh֖vֵ¶ktֱ erַ֖ hkַº gָnֵ rÎ xֵhָuְ ofֶh֑vֵ¶k-tֱ wskַ Urh,ִgְ֖vַuְ ogַPַº vַ r,ַgְ֖Hֶuַ v¶grְ֑Pַ ogִÉֵn tmֵHֵ֖uַ 18 :vZֶvַ ,uֶNָËַv־,tֶ tÎ ¬ָHִuַ s¶tº nְ ezָjָÉ oÎ hָ־jַUr wsÀ lְ¶p¿ vֲHַuַ 19 :ws־ktֶ vCֶÉְrtַ rÎ tַJְbִ t¶kÀ;UX֑ vNָhָ ÉUvgֵeָ֖,ְHִuַ vCֶº rְtַvָÉ־,tֶ ckֵÉ־,tֶ ws֖֖֖ eZֵjַËhְuַ 20 :ohִrָmְnִ kUcËְD k¶fCְ֖ sjָº tֶ rnֶt¶H¿uַ 21 p :ktֵrָGְhִ hbֵCְË ־,tֶ jKַJִ֖ t¶kËְu v¶grְ֑Pַ lְJֶ¶j֖ hvִhuִ Ëohִnַº שָּׁvַ־kgַ lָÎ sְhָ vyֵÀְb vJֶ֗¶n־ktֶ wÃs vJֶÁ¶n yHֵuַË 22 :lְJֶ¶j Jnֵ֖hָuְ ohִrָmְ֑nִ .rֶtֶÉ־kgַ .rֶtֶË־kfָCְ vkָÁֵptֲ־lְJֶ¶j hvִÍְhuַ ohִnָ֑ שָּׁvַ־kgַ Ishָ֖־,tֶ uhjִ֗tָ־,tֶ JhtִÉ UtÄrָ־t¶k 23 :ohnִhָ ,Jֶ¶kËְJ ohִrַmְ֖nִ hbֵCְÍ ־kfָkְU ohnִ֑hָ ,Jֶ¶kÉְJ uh,ָjְ֖,ַnִ JhtִË UneָÁ־t¶kuְ :o,ָ¶cJְInCְ rIt vhָvָË ktֵÁָrGְhִ Rashi 13 ) ורוח הקדים -רוח מזרחית נשא את ) הארבה, לפי שבא כנגדו שמצרים בדרומית ( מערבית הייתה, כמו שמפורש במקום אחר: ( 14 ואחריו לא יהיה כן -ואותו שהיה בימי יואל, שנאמר (יואל ב ב) כמוהו לא נהיה מן העולם, למדנו שהיה כבד משל משה כי אותו של יואל היה על ידי מינין הרבה, שהיו יחד ארבה ילק חסיל גזם, אבל של משה לא היה אלא של מין אחד, וכמוהו לא היה ולא יהיה: ( 15 ) כל ירק -עלה ירוק וירדור"א בלעז [ירק]: ( 19 ): ימה סוף -אומר אני שים סוף היה מקצתו במערב כנגד כל רוח דרומית וגם במזרח של ארץ ישראל, לפיכך רוח ים תקעו לארבה בימה סוף כנגדו. וכן מצינו לענין תחומין שהוא פונה לצד מזרח, שנאמר (שמות כג לא) מים סוף ועד ים פלשתים, ממזרח למערב, שים פלשתים במערב היה, שנאמר בפלשתים (צפניה ב ה) יושבי חבל הים גוי כרתים: ( 21 ) וימש חשך -ויחשיך עליהם חשך יותר מחשכו של לילה, וחשך של לילה יאמיש ויחשיך עוד: ( 22 ) ויהי חשך אפלה שלשת ימים וגו' -חשך של אופל שלא ראו איש את אחיו אותן שלשת ימים. שלא קמו איש מתחתיו. יושב אין יכול לעמוד, ועומד אין יכול לישב. ולמה הביא עליהם חשך? שהיו בישראל באותו הדור רשעים, ולא היו רוצים לצאת, ומתו בשלשת ימי אפלה כדי שלא יראו מצרים במפלתם ויאמרו אף הן לוקין כמונו. ועוד שחיפשו ישראל וראו את כליהם, וכשיצאו והיו שואלין מהן והיו אומרים אין בידינו כלום אומר לו אני ראיתיו בביתך ובמקום פלוני הוא: שלשת ימים -שלוש של ימים טירציינ"א בלעז [קבוצה של שלושה ימים רצופים] וכן שבעת ימים בכל מקום שטיינ"א של ימים [קבוצה של שבעה ימים רצופים]: 12. And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, all that the hail has left. 13. And Moses stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. 14. And the locusts went over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt; very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, nor after them shall be such. 15. For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they ate every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left; and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt. 16. Then Pharaoh called hurriedly for Moses and Aaron; and he said, I have sinned against the Lord your God, and against you. 17. Now therefore forgive, I beg you, my sin only this once, and entreat the Lord your God, that he may take away from me this death only. 18. And he went out from Pharaoh, and entreated the Lord. 19. And the Lord turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and threw them into the Red Sea; there remained not one locust in all the borders of Egypt. 20. But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so that he would not let the people of Israel go. 21. And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, darkness which may be felt. 22. And Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days; 23. They saw not one another, nor any rose from his place for three days; but all the people of Israel had light in their dwellings.
