MANISH TULI PGT CHEMISTRY JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA AMARKANTAK (ANUPPUR) M.P. ENRICHMENT OF CHEMISTRY IN CLASS ROOM TEACHING Teaching of chemistry needs skill to make the platform for the understanding of the subject. The high order concepts accumulation can sublime and distil off the difficulty of the student. The word chemistry abbreviates the traits of learning: C - CONFIDENCE, CURIOSITY, CREATIVITY H- HONESTY AND HEALING E – EFFORT AND EXCELLENCE M – MEDITATION I – INTEREST S – SINCERIETY T- TRIAL R- RESEARCH AND REACTION TIME Y- YOUTHFULLNESS The Objectives of teaching is the transition of ideas and concepts, while teaching of Chemistry the difficulties are with the abilities to assimilate the concept and configuration of literature of chemistry. The dealing of Chemistry subject in junior classes can be framed with the objectives and aspects mentioned. The topics should be reviewed and researched to predict all the possible feedbacks The concept should be correlated with the daily examples and doings to make the concept relevant and realistic. The concept delivered in Junior class needs activity and doings to make the experience of concept. The dealing of concept should be empathetically by the Teachers for the taught. The concepts deliver should thought provoking and creativity building. The teaching should be with proper and comfortable communication. The major problems arise due to communication gaps and accent. The Dealing of subject matter should correlate with the previous knowledge and facts the learner encounters with. The consequences of the concept and there application should be crystal clear to the taught. The High Order Thinking should be envisaged among the student. The role of teacher fits to the quote of Sir Albert Einstein: “Dear Students, Bear in mind the rich and valuable heritage we are having today is the work of several generation, take it sincerely and add to it and hand it over to the next generation faithfully and sincerely” The teacher should act as the facilitator and add to the knowledge of the student and help them to overcome the obstacle and hurdles. DIFFICULTIES IN TEACHING OF CHEMISTRY The accumulation of vast and varied concept with a large dimensions and deviations are there while teaching of chemistry, the hurdles can be overcome by making an articulation of topic with concepts to deliver in concrete and stable fashion. The following difficulties are monitored while teaching of chemistry: High range of concept High order of variation in concepts Large literature Concepts reveals maximum of imaginations Improper curriculum for chemistry in junior science teaching. Lack of basic literature to teach chemistry in curriculum. Lack of interest amongst teacher and taught due to HOT in chemistry. Lack of innovations and creativity. DIFFICULTIES IN RECAPTULATION Recapitulation leads to a happy ending of the chapter with establishment of concepts and ideas in the mind of taught with stability. The difficulties of recapitulation can be overwhelmed by following events: Maintenance of Red Pages: Red Pages are the briefcase where the student encloses the doubtful and difficult topics he/she encountered during the teaching-learning process. These pages will help him/her to assist during his/her revision era and concentration on the most difficult issues. Regular Drill and Seminar: Regular drill and seminar after the completion of topic will compile the concept and help to reveal the experiences and application of concept. DIFFICULTIES IN CALCULATION MAKING IN CHEMISTRY: While dealing the class room a major problem presentable is making of calculations in chemistry. Mainly the application part of the concept deals with the calculative approach, calculations based on the practical problems of the concept provides the bridge between concept and its application. The dealing of concepts requires high order of accuracy. The difficulties of making calculation can be overcome by developing Mental Logarithm Book in the minds of students. Objective of Mental Logarithm Book Making of calculation easy and affordable. Time Required Ten Minutes Tools Required Log Values of 2 (0.301), 3 (0.477) and 7 (0.845) Laws of Logarithm: Log (x * y) = log x + log y Log (x/y) = log x – log y Log (x)y = y log x Log y√x = 1/y log x Results and interpretations With accuracy and range of +- 0.05 APPLYING VEDIC MATHEMATICS: Vedic mathematics provides a strong concentration and tricks to make Mathematical calculations easily for the application questions based on concept of Chemistry teaching. DESIGNING OF JUNIOR SCIENCE LAB Junior Science lab provides the platform to the students to explore the in hidden scientist in them, provides power to express views and ideas and structuring of scientific temperament in them. Objective of Junior Science Lab: The following are the objectives and goals of the Junior Science Lab: Providing a platform to explore the scientific potentials in taught. Providing a landscape to sketch and portrait there creativity and ideas. Handling of concept with concrete and stable dimensions. Making a class room scenario attractive and informative. Making a class room concepts analytical. Structuring innovations in class room scenario. Publishing of scientific fever amongst the student. Establishing a true relationship b/w teacher and taught while working on common platform. Empowers the learning capacity of taught. Delivers the concept with flexibility and sustainability Make learning with play and fun DESIGNING OF JUNIIOR SCIENCE LAB A CASE STUDY: Ms. Stephen, Science Teacher and International Public School, School of Experts, with a sophisticated budget provision for establishment of Junior Science Laboratory in school premises. She called for the following list of articles for decorating the Infra and equipping the lab for deal. PURPOSE REFERENCE CONTINIOUS AND COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEACHER AND TAUGHT The essential issue for the present education scenario is the need to understand the dignity of tender relationship between the teacher and the taught, the respect for this relationship. Education is not the amount of information that is put into brain and runs riots there, undigested, should be life building, character enriching, Enrichment of character is far better to crash with number of libraries. The measurement of educational achievement should be beyond the limits of coagulating concepts, pen paper test and switching from lower levels to higher. “Every man is with all Knowledge, and it requires only an awakening”- Vedanta. The work of teacher is to revive the thoughts and make efforts for awakening. The art of handling own intellect, to admire the beauty of education. The condition of the taught should not be like the ass carrying the sandalwood, and unknown of the value of it. Guru Rabindranath Tagore quoted: “Imparting knowledge to the class with dead minds is worthless” The true identity of the teacher is the way he interact and enrich the potential enclosed within the boundaries of taught. Potrating the present day scenario, we feel the relationship publishing between the teacher and taught are with wide variations, the two extreme ended happenings, the best can be explained: standing on the two opposite bank of flowing river with a view of opposite flows. The essentialities is to skill with tools to handle the taught to shape the personality and scaffold the hardships and hurdles faced by them. The cut throat competition is classifying the students to weaker and stronger section, the discrimination is bringing fewer to confidants and major to bashful position, the true efforts of teacher to frame the rubrics to evaluate every potentials and to sublime the bashful conditions of majors. The education we are receiving should not to make a race of dyspeptics, and living a jelly-fish existence. The education should be understood with its true meaning and fragrance for forming a character, strengthening of mind, to expand the intellect, and making as with self identification. The gesture of a taught should be relevant and respectable, the trends to stand in the existing society with a name, respect to cultural heritage, includes morale and values, teachers should trade to develop the foresaid trends in taught. A Beacon Light lifts the ship from drowning in waves, so shall a teacher be for the taught. EVALUATION TOOLS . Evaluation tools are the device to interpret the outcomes of the process conducted. The tools designed are the best structured on the basis of need of condition and standard of taught, can be understood by the event of IIT 1994, a group of 4 students, instead of preparing for the forthcoming day exam, were engaged with playing, the day was over, next day, the examination day caught them in stress to appear for exam, they decided and dressed themselves with dirt and oil on clothes and move to the Dean of college. They reported that there four wheeler suffered burst of one tyre and they move long distance whole night and are not in status to write for the exam, they need excuse for two days and will reappear with preparation. The Dean excused them and asks to appear for the test after 2 days. They prepared themselves, and move to Dean for exam. The Dean called one by one to the chamber and provided a sheet of paper with 2 questions to them and allocated everyone an isolated corner. The 2 questions were: What is your name? Which of the tyre suffered the burst on that night: a. Front right b. Front left c. Back right d. Back left. The above story extends that evaluation tools can be structured in the class room itself. OBJECTIVE OF EVALUATION TOOLS: To make the recall of concepts and ideas discussed To frame the revision of the data To enlighten the concept and ideas through taught. To deal with applications of concepts To keep check on the understanding of concepts To make peer group learning To identify the outcome and feedback To reveal the standard and difficulties of concept. To judge the heterogeneity of class and to step the measures to improvise the situation. To have a learning with fun. CASE STUDY A Class Room Scene, Class X, St. Stephen Public School, Deharadun, Mr. S.K. Sharma (Science Teacher) deals with Science and Technology Theory. He allocates the period for Discussion, Activity and Evaluation. After completion of the topic he usually divides the group of students into sub groups and nomenclature them, conduct some group activities like: Quiz, seminars and discussions. A last evaluation classroom scene has been described: A Class of 40 students, divided into 4 groups A, B, C and D. The topic of revision and evaluation was commenced. A quiz session was organized and the total slot was divided into following heads: i. Rapid fire round : 10 questions for each group were provided and the time was maintained for 2 mins to each group with positive and negative points. ii. Reaction identifying round : A reaction scene was demonstrated by the Teacher and the Lab technician, Group answering correctly to the activity demonstrated was awarded. iii. Identifying the Portraits of Scientist iv. Puzzle on Elements and compound was provided to each group for solution. The overall slot ended with identifying Group B as Winner team and Group C as Runner-up. What additional can we suggest for the improvisation to the slot planned by Mr. Sharma? Are we finding the slot was scaffolding the academics? Are the rubrics designed were comfortable for the total class? Are the class room scenario was suitable for the heterogeneous group of student? Are the preparations for the slot was well articulated and time managing? Are the consequences of the slot were affirmative for academic strengthening? LIST OF EVALUATION TOOLS: The following evaluation tools can be induced in the class room scenario for improvement of the teaching learning process and proper feedback session: WORKING MODEL: By providing opportunity to the student after the completion of topic, to prepare a working model on the concept and idea deal during the slot. HERBARIUM FILE : Preparation of herbarium to collect the details of plants and floral species. QUIZ SESSION : Dividing the class in groups, followed by quiz session on the questions structured by group itself. MATERIAL COLLECTION: Collection of material included in the chapter or topic discussed. MEMORIZING GAME: A list of word or article will be given with a definite time and recalling of the list will be performed by the students. RELATION GAME: Relating the topic and the theme of the topic with happenings in daily life. SUB TOPIC DISCUSSION AND SEMINAR: A seminar on topic by the different groups and a group discussion on the topic will accelerate the learning of the chapter and reveals the concept with new dimensions. CORRECTING GAME: A wrong statement or diagram is presented and the students will ask to make it correct/ label it correctly. ACTIVITY DEMONSTRATION: The students will self demonstrate the activity and let the other student of the class to understand the fact. QUESTION BANK: The students will be divided into groups and will be asked to prepare a set of question and model answer. SELF TESTING: All the students will design a question paper, and will be randomly distributed b/w the class and the cross checking with errata will be performed by the student themselves.
