Christ's Instructions on What We Need in Our Ministry - Part One
Christ’s Instructions for MinistryAs ministers of the gospel, it is our obligation to break new ground; To go before people and proclaim that the Kingdom of Heaven has come to them.In Luke 10, Christ is sending out the 70 disciples. He sent them out a certain way and gave them specific instructions of what to take, what not to take and how they should not stop along way to greet others.Christ sent the disciples out two by two. What could be the significance of this? Was it for their protection? Was it because two were needed to accomplish what He was sending them out to do? Or, could it be that since they were like lambs among wolves He understood that they would need their spiritual power & authority in order to discern the wolves and not be overcome by them? In ministry today it is not wise to go out by oneself and enter into the camp of darkness. You never know what the enemy has planned for you and in certain situations it is simply a matter of propriety. We must shun the very appearance of evil.Let’s deal with the first 4 Instructions (Luke 10: 2-4):Pray for more laborersTake no purseTake no scripTake no shoesSalute no man in the wayAll of these instructions have stood the test of time. Christ has given instructions to His ministers and we need to follow them and see how He increases the Kingdom through our effort.HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT: Due 10-28-2011 Look up and give the Greek meanings of:ScripPurseSandalsSalutePrayerGive ways that each of these instructions given to the disciples in Acts are still relevant to ministry today.
