Weather and ClimateLesson 3: Content Based English : Weather and ClimateLesson 3: Content Based English Marguerite Carstairs http://activeenglishspeaking.com

Climate and Weather : Climate and Weather Climate is what you expect; weather is what you get. Climate is about long-term records, trends and averages;weather is the day to day experience. Climate is the sum or synthesis of all the weather recorded over a long period of time. It tells us the average or most common conditions, or extremes, or counts of events, or frequencies. Weather is a description of conditions over a short period of time - a "snap shot" of the atmosphere at a particular time.If weather is the watch then climate is the calendar.

Slide 15 : There are four steps in producing a weather forecast. First, relevant features of the atmosphere must be observed as frequently, accurately and over as wide an area as possible. Then these observations must be assembled as quickly as possible at a central point. Next they must be processed and analysed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current weather, including the preparation of maps. Finally, forecasters must predict how the maps, and consequently the weather, will change

Weather Data : Australia Weather Bureau : Weather Data : Australia Weather Bureau The easiest observations are those at ground level. The Bureau's 60 staffed stations, 500 co-operative observers and 6000 volunteer rainfall observers gather the necessary data.
