LimericksPoetry 101 for fun : LimericksPoetry 101 for fun from The Edupunk at WizIQ www.myESLfriends.com ref: http://www.creative-writing-now.com/how-to-write-a-limerick.html Download here: LINK

Why? : Why? Spoken English is a skill.  A such we use techniques to improve specific motor-thought coordination.   For letter sounds we like to use tongue twisters. For problem words we use limericks. This activity starts with a favorite Limerick or with specific words we wish to drill with.  After completing the poem we ask the participants to find pics to add some humorous meaning.  Finally we let all take turns reciting. Pretty simple but highly effective for improving via rhyming words and it is great for engaging all to participate.

Technical aspects : Technical aspects Limericks consist of five lines. The rhyme scheme is aabba. In other words, Lines One, Two, and Five all rhyme with each other, and Lines Three and Four rhyme with each other (in some limericks, Lines One and Five end with the same word and rhyme with Line Two). The typical rhythm of a limerick is like this: bah-BAH bah-bah-BAH bah-bah-BAHbah-BAH bah-bah-BAH bah-bah-BAHbah-BAH bah-bah-BAHbah-BAH bah-bah-BAHbah-BAH bah-bah-BAH bah-bah-BAH

Ideas for starting : Ideas for starting Ready to try some limericks of your own? Here are some first lines you can use to get you started if you want. He was an unusual boy There once was a very old dog A beautiful girl in my town There was a young woman whose head Two poets who couldn't agree Sample by Lear There was an Old Person of Dover,Who rushed through a field of blue Clover; But some very large bees,Stung his nose and his knees,So he very soon went back to Dover.
