Defining Your Call To Christian Ministry
September 20, 2011Defining Your Call To Christian MinistryA broad definition for Christian Ministry would be, “Answering the call of G-d to salvation and striving to keep your feet upon the path of righteousness. However, that train of thought leaves too much to the person’s discretion and no room for G-d to show himself strong in their life.More to the point, Christian Ministry is living a life that is sanctified and holy before the L-rd. It is putting your hand to the plough and never looking or turning back because you know that your life is in Christ and it means that you have a mandate to go out into places so filled with darkness you know that the only reason you are still standing is because of the Christ that is within you and the call that is upon your life to win souls for the Kingdom of G-d. “And the Lord said unto the servants, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” (Luke 14:23)Christian Ministry is what and who we are in and through Christ. It is a LIFE lived and directed by the Master of the Universe. It means that you see ministry opportunities all around you, and you make it your business to take care of what Christ has left for you to accomplish. So, yes while you may legitimately believe that the call you answered is to just be a Prayer Intercessor, to just be an evangelist, or to just be a Sabbath School Teacher; You must realize there is more, much more to operating in Christian Ministry. ALL must be prepared to give a WORD in due season, ALL must be prepared to run Bible Study if necessary, ALL must be prepared to handle the finances, ALL must be prepared to handle the Altar Call, ALL must be prepared to handle community ministry. Those whom the Father calls he equips and he equips for the full measure of ministry that nothing might go lacking. The word declares in Psalms 82:6, “I have said Ye are gods and all of you are children of the most high.” And over in 2 Timothy 2:6 it declares “The husbandman that laboureth must be first partakers of the fruits.” In essence, we were created in the image of the Almighty and as such we have the same abilities as He. He has called us gods (little “g” ) to let us know that we need to operate in a supreme manner. The word “gods” here means Elohiym which means gods in the ordinary sense; not on the same level as our Lord and Savior, but beneath him having the same characteristics. Meaning that we should be operating in excellence more so than the person who does not claim G-d as their creator or savior. In 2 Timothy it declares that we should be first partakers of the fruits. Simply put, we are going to first experience what we minister about and then disseminate that knowledge to others. The call to Christian Ministry is a unique and sometimes urgent impartation from G-d. When the call is received, it must first be accepted. Secondly, you must learn what it is to be called into service to the Almighty and why He is calling you at that time. Third, you must seek sufficient covering for your call if you do not already have it.You must present your body as a living sacrifice to G-d who is able to keep you against the attacks of the enemy which will surely come once you have been chosen by G-d. You must renew your mind daily with the Word of G-d and also through praise and worship; nothing should come before this time that you spend with him. This is important because in so doing you stand more of a chance that nothing and no one will be able to draw you away or seduce you into disobedience to G-d’s will for your life.Homework Assignment:Read the story of Joseph (Genesis 37-45) and the story of Jonah (the Book of Jonah):A:Describe how they answered their calls/their reactions,B:Describe how they were first partakers of what they were called to do,C:Define their callsD:Describe how they knew that they were called and tell how these calls fit their lives and personalities.E:If you were called to these types of ministries/missions how would you carry them out. Please email your assignments to me upon completion.
