Chapter03 MemSofit : Chapter03 MemSofit Five of the Hebrew letters take a different form if they are the last letter of any word. Mem is one of those Five. In any position in a word, first letter or any of the middle letters, use the regular Mem. BUT if (and only if) the letter is the very last letter of the word, then it takes a different form. We will see this exact same concept repeated for the other four letters when we get to them. The rules are the same, call this one the “Final Mem” (Mem Sofit in Hebrew)

Chapter03 MemSofit : Chapter03 MemSofit The Mem Sofit is almost square with a little rounded extension at the top left. It has only a very slight resemblance to the regular Mem. It is very similar to another letter we will learn.

Chapter03 two Mems : Chapter03 two Mems

Chapter03 two Mems : Chapter03 two Mems There is a problem with the appearance of the final Mem since it looks very much like a letter we will learn later.

MemSofit Outline : MemSofit Outline Mem Sofit is made in two strokes. The first stroke starts at top left, goes across to top right then down to bottom right. (the same first stroke as some other letters we have seen) This letter can also be done if one stroke if you prefer, don’t stop at bottom right, continue across the bottom, then back up to near the starting point, leaving a slight offset at the top left. (in either way, be sure to square the corners to avoid confusing the Mem Sofit for a Samekh)
