An organic compound contains 69.77 % of carbon, 11.63 % Hydrogen and rest Oxygen. The molecular mass of the compound is 86. It does not reduce Tollens’ reagent but forms an addition compound with sodium hydrogensulphite and give positive iodoform test. On vigorous oxidation it gives ethanoic and propanoic acid. Write the possible structure of the compound and give the reactions involved in support of your answer.

What is meant by Vont Hoff Factor? 2 gm of benzoic acid (C6H5COOH) dissolved in 25 gm of Benzene shows a depression in freezing point equal to 1.62 K. Molal depression constant for benzene is 4.9 K kg mol-1. What is the percentage association of acid if it forms dimer in solution?
