Description
Using Mobile Devices to Develop Communication Skills Among Tertiary Level Students by Dr. Revathi Viswanathan

The paper aims to highlight the need for using mobile devices to promote language learning in a traditional classroom. It would describe the short study carried out by the presenter, in which tertiary level students were encouraged to use the mobile devices like 3G mobile phones, Smart phones, Laptop and Digital camera for recording their presentations. The evaluation of the presentations followed by a discussion with the students highlighted the advantages in using the tools for promoting communicative ability among students. In other words, it was evident that students could make effective presentations and perform with confidence by using the devices. Moreover, students could self-assess themselves about their performance and also share the presentations with the teacher and peers very easily. In this context, it is worthwhile to mention that the presenter too could gain insight on the use of the devices for supplementing teaching materials beyond the classroom, from this short study.
