Description
Lecture begins with Doppler's effect in sound.A simple excercise with tuning fork shows this effect beautifully. Doppler's effect is used for calculating various quantities. Doppler effect with electromagnetic radiation is discussed next. The symmetry of this effect is explained . The equation for Doppler shift for e.m radiation is mentioned without going into its derivation as that requires the idea of relativity. This leads to blue shift and red shift. The concept of Doppler effect is utilized in explaining the binary stars and its spectrum.Neutron star, white dwarf, Chandrashekhar limit, black holes are the other topics introduced.
