Slide 3 : Weather & Climate in AFRICA Equator line (Kenya, Cameroun, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Côte D’Ivoire, Gabon, ...) = one HOT continent; South (South Africa, Lesoto) & North Africa (Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia); Be aware of the rainy season!

Slide 4 : Languages in AFRICA AFRICA has more than 3000. Three-thousand-languages! Officialy, however, the continent has around 25 languages – like the colonials ENGLISH, FRENCH, PORTUGUESE & SPANISH. ARABIC is also an official language in Africa (Algeria, Comoros, Chad, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Lybia, Mauritania, Morocco, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia, Niger) HOWFA? ET CHEZ TOI?

Slide 5 : Currency in AFRICA * Afro* Afro (moeda)* Angolar (moeda)* Ariary* Birr Etíope* Dalasi* Dinar Sudanês* Dirham marroquino (1MAD = R$0,20) * Dobra (STD)* Escudo cabo-verdiano* Escudo de Moçambique* Franco CFA (300CFA = R$1,00)* Franco do Djibouti* Franco guineense* Franco ruandês* Kwanza* Kwanza reajustável* Leone* Loti* Metical* Naira (150NGN = R$1,00)* Nakfa* Rand (10ZAR = R$2,35)* Xelim (100KES = R$1,70)* Dólar Namibiano http://www.financeone.com.br/moedas/cotacoes-do-real-e-outras-moedas/

Slide 6 : Getting to and around AFRICA From South Africa OR Europe? Airline companies in Africa: BE CAREFUL! (http://ec.europa.eu/transport/air-ban/list_pt.htm) Public transportation: buses, taxis and moto-taxis; Ask your friends, family or AIESEC!!!

Slide 7 : Eating in AFRICA = eating well! Typical meal; FISH and chicken; YAMS all around! Fruits and vegetables; Dinner table: you may not find it! When NO knife or fork is needed; FOOD in Africa: CHEAPER, GOOD & EVERYWHERE!

Slide 8 : AFRICA’s culture and traditions Bonjour, ça va? – everytime, everywhere! Dancing like no one is watching; Music; Traffic (negotiating is MANDATORY); Religion: REALLY important! Family; ONE TYPICAL DAY IN AFRICA; “passar perrengue”?????? EXCHANGE = open mind. Research, but don’t take it as a rule!

Slide 9 : Destination: AFRICA Clothes: Nothing heavy (unless you go to Europe or South Africa during winter), nothing too short (respect tradition and religious values), nothing too expensive or fancy. YOU WEAR, YOU SWEAT, YOU WASH. Learn how to do your laundry without the machine! Bring your swimming suit and one or two dresses/pants + shirt (you may be asked for a party, an evening event or sales visit) Discover how people usually dress in your country: bring something to cover your hair (girls!) – even if it’s not religious, it’s HOT. Trust me! Shoes: don’t forget something confortable to walk around (I suggest those hiking boots), but also light and put together shoes (havaianas, sapatilhas, your day-to-day shoes in Brazil) WARNING: your shoes and clothes might get worn out, specially if you wash them too hard – BE PREPARED) SUNSCREEN

Slide 10 : Destination: AFRICA Medicines & insurence: Pay attention on the migration laws in your destination! Bring something for allergies (the weather can give you some trouble, nothing serious!) and your stomach (PEPPER, PEPPER, PEPPER); In Africa, in general, you can only buy medicine with a prescription and DOCTORS ARE EXPENSIVE (CFA 15000 for 1 consultation in Benin); Try to learn the names of your regular medicines in french/english – most of the medications are imported! MAKE SURE YOUR INSURENCE COVERS YOUR COUNTRY AND YOUR TRIPS. They will usually pay you back after you spend, so SAVE THE RECEIPT! If you can, go to the Brazilian Embassy and ask them for a good hospital/doctor; SUNSCREEN

Slide 11 : Destination: AFRICA YELLOW FEVER: At least 10 days before departure you MUST get the yellow fever vaccine. It’s available for free at SUS’ Postos de Saúde. IT’S MANDATORY and they won’t let you in if you don’t have the INTERNATIONAL card. You can also take profilaxis for Tetanus and other conditions for free in Brazil! MALARIA (or paludism): It’s a serious desease and people get it sometimes in Africa due to bad sanitary/information conditions; PREVENT IT: get a mosquito net when you arrive, don’t stay out night without long leaves + pants (or a good repellent)

Slide 12 : Destination: AFRICA rePRESENTING BRAZIL: Africans are CRAZY about soccer, so if you kow how to play or if you support a team in Brazil (or Europe, since their local championships are not as strong – except CAF), you’re HOME. They already know about Lula, Pelé, Ronaldo and some other personalities, so this is YOUR CHANCE to bring them some new knowledge around our country. Some people are specially interested on Brazil’s economical development, so it’s nice to understand what is happening! Our food has a lot of similarities, like yams, beans and rice. They also grow “castanha de caju” in some places (like Cameroun and Gabon). HOWEVER, they don’t know brigadeiro, paçoca and caipirinha. You can bring small but meaningfull gifts from Brazil: keychains, bracellets, postcards. BE CAREFULL WITH YOUR LUGGAGE: companies usually allow 2x32kgs on International Flights, but in African companies (Kenya Airways, Royal Air Maroc, ...) it can be 2x23kgs. Overweight is expensive and bureaucratic!

Slide 13 : Destination: AFRICA – final tips! AFRICA GN
