Computer Addiction Technology has recently served humanity in a remarkable way. Nowadays, people do use it increasingly more than any time before. One of its largely used devices is the computer. Unfortunately, a lot of people do use this sophisticated electronic device too extensively. This phenomenon is called computer addiction. So, what are its causes and consequences? And are there any efficient solutions for preventing the progress of this problem? Many people especially teenagers get addicted to computer due to many reasons. First of all, parents provide their houses with computers for their children educational purposes and resources. However, most of kids do misuse them as they seek only fun through playing games and chatting, for instance. Second, there is a lack of parents control, supervision and checking over their kids’ use of the computer. Thus, this leads to spending much time in front of the computers. Third, most of computer addicts do not follow a daily schedule that organizes their study time and free time activities which is a direct factor behind this phenomenon. Finally, most of computer addicts are not conscious of their addiction until they get physically and mentally ill. Many computer addicts do not realize that their addiction is seriously harmful to them physically, mentally and psychologically and socially. To begin with, sitting in front of the computer for hours makes their eyes ill as they lose their focus and strength and also causes headaches. Furthermore, spending more and more time in front of the computer screens without exercising, makes computer addicts unhealthy. For example, many of computer addicts suffer from obesity. Concerning mental and psychological negative effect, computer addicts especially teenagers –boys- tend to be aggressive towards the real world because of the violent computer graphic games that consume hours from their daily lifetime. Besides, among social negative effects that computer addiction brings about is that computer addicts do enclose themselves in a virtual word which they trust and escape their real concrete world. The more they stick to their computers, the less time they allow to their education and family. Consequently, their social relationship within or outside the family and their academic achievements get negatively affected. Even this phenomenon is serious; hopefully there are still lots of ways to follow as solutions. Parents should set up some rules for their kids to follow while having a computer at home. The first and most crucial rule is to place the computer from where parents can keep an eye on how the kids use it. Furthermore, establishing a schedule for using the computer is another important rule to value. This means that sitting in front of the computer is not their priority, but after dealing with their lessons and exercises activities. What is more, parents should encourage kids to get interested and involved in other activities such as practicing varied sorts of sports, camping and trips. These activities would certainly help them socialize with people. Last but not least, parents should create alternative activities at home rather than using the computer only. Therefore, their kids’ attention would be attracted from using it continuously. To sum up, computer addiction is a serious phenomenon that is due to many factors including not only computer addicts themselves but also their parents. Neglecting or being unaware of this dangerous addiction leads to very serious negative effects on the computer addicts. Yet, hopefully, lots of solutions are available as efficient and effective ways to deal with this phenomenon.
