Polynomials : Polynomials S.C.Benjamin sc.benjamin@yahoo.com Skype refractiveindex Mob +9199199165771

Slide 2 : Following algebraic expressions are few polynomials

Slide 3 : Pick up algebraic expressions which are not polynomials

Zeroes of Polynomial : Zeroes of Polynomial Thus, 2 is a zero of polynomial p(x)

Slide 5 : Value of a Polynomial The value of p(x) at x = 4 is depicted as p(4) and p(4) = 2

Slide 6 : It is convenient to express polynomials as follows :

Quadratic Polynomial Graph with two Zeroes : Quadratic Polynomial Graph with two Zeroes There are two points of intersection of the graph with the x-axis.Thus, there are two zeroes of the polynomial. Zeroes are x-coordinates of the points of intersection. These are : - 2, 1. This graph is for :

Quadratic Polynomial Graph with no Zero : Quadratic Polynomial Graph with no Zero This graph does not meet x-axis at any point. Thus, it has no zero. This graph is for the following polynomial :

Quadratic Polynomial Graph with one Zero : Quadratic Polynomial Graph with one Zero There is just one point of intersection of the graph and the x-axis. Co-ordinates of this point are (1, 0) The x-coordinate, 1, is the zero of this polynomial. This graph corresponds to following polynomial :

Quadratic Polynomial Graph : Quadratic Polynomial Graph The Graph is a Parabola Zeroes of the polynomial whose graph is this are : - 2 and 3 This is a graph of following polynomial :

Cubic Polynomial Graph : Cubic Polynomial Graph The graph shown here is the graph of : Zeroes of polynomial are - 3, - 1 and 1

Graph of a Plynomial of Degree 4 : Graph of a Plynomial of Degree 4 This is a graph of a polynomial of degree 4. Thus, it has 4 zeroes. Note that the graph cuts x-axis at 4 points. The four zeroes are : - 2, -1, 1, and 2. This is a graph of :
