S-IV : S-IV S-IV : the verb has no receiver of the action Ex. We will go. My mom can’t watch. I will eat.

S-TV-DO : S-TV-DO S-TV-DO : the verb has a receiver of the action. The receiver of the action is a noun or a pronoun (direct object). We can determine the direct object by asking the question who or what after the verb. Ex. I already watched the film. She liked it.

S-TV-IO-DO : S-TV-IO-DO The indirect object is a noun or pronoun for whom the action was done. We determine the direct object by asking the question for/to whom or for/to what after the verb. Ex. Father bought us a bag of popcorn. we will buy some doughnuts for mother.

S-LV-PN : S-LV-PN A predicate noun is a noun which comes after a linking verb. Ex. She is my mother. My mom is a nurse.

S-LV-PA : S-LV-PA A predicate adjective is an adjective that comes aftern a linking verb. Ex. The movie was awesome. My hardworking father is very thoughtful.

S-TV-DO-OC : S-TV-DO-OC This sentence uses an objective complement after the direct object. Ex. Dr. Fleming named his magic stuff Penicillin. Michael calls her mother Nanay.

Sentence Structure : Sentence Structure Sentences may be classified according to their structure: simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex.

Simple sentence : Simple sentence Simple sentence has 1 subject and one predicate either both of which may be compound. It is actually one independent clause.

Simple sentence : Simple sentence Simple subject has only one noun as a subject. Ex. Pooh is my favorite cartoon character. Compound subject has two or more nouns as subject. Ex. Frogs and fish are both amphibians.

Simple sentence : Simple sentence Simple predicate has only one verb/action done by the subject Ex. Camille danced like a crazy frog. Compound predicate has two or more verbs/actions done by the subject/s. Ex. Camille sang and danced all night long.

Compound Sentence : Compound Sentence A compound sentence contains two or more independent clauses (simple sentence/s) joined by ordinates or sentence connectors. SS1: Sheila ordered flowers for her mother. SS2: She also added chocolates to her gift. = Sheila ordered flowers for her mother /and/ she also added chocolates to her gift.

Complex sentence : Complex sentence A complex sentence is made up of an independent clause and at least one subordinate clause. Ex: When we love someone, we should let the person know how we feel. If you feel like crying, cry.

Compound - Complex sentence : Compound - Complex sentence A compound – complex sentence has two or more independent clauses and at least one subordinate clause. Ex: It is difficult for one to take the risk of losing someone, but the result is worth it when one also feels loved.
