White Hat Facts – what do we already know? The White Hat calls for information known or needed. "The facts, just the facts." Think of a white sheet of paper, computer print out with pure data Red Hat: Hunch, intuition and emotional reaction without giving your reasons. **Intution: an original, independent source of knowledge… designed to account for just those kinds of knowledge that other sources do not provide. At red hat, you can express emotions and feelings and share fears, likes, dislikes, loves, and hates. Your hunch is the distilled experiences of thousands of years of your heredity. Yellow Hat: Optimism, good points The Yellow Hat symbolises brightness and optimism. Under this hat you explore the positives and probe for value and benefits of the given situation Green Hat :Creativity, new ideas The Green Hat focuses on creativity; the possibilities, alternatives, and new ideas. It's an opportunity to express new concepts and new perceptions. Wearing the green hat, we deliberately choose to see brand new, creative ideas on the given topic Black hat Caution, why it should fail, critical judgement The Black Hat is for judgment - the devil's advocate or why something may not work. Spot the difficulties and dangers; where things might go wrong. Probably the most useful hat. But a problem if overused. This is the hat we tend to wear immediately on hearing of a new idea. Hence, one has to earn his right to criticize, says Edward de Bono. Blue Hat Process – thinking about thinking It usually used in the beginning to outline the process and to harvest the ideas generated. The Blue Hat is used to manage the thinking process. It's the control mechanism that ensures the Six Thinking Hats guidelines are observed.
