Cycling 101 Overview & Purpose Course Goal: The goal for this course is to give people the opportunity to learn the basics of cycling; including but not limited to motivation, cycling safety, bike anatomy, nutrition, fitness and body anatomy. 1. Students will be able to name the different parts of a bike and know what the safety requirements are when cycling on an open road. 2. Students will be able to know what can keep them motivated using the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. 3. Students will learn the importance of listening to their body during cycling and what are the measures necessary to have an enjoyable ride. 4. Student will develop an understanding about nutrition and fitness and the importance maintaining a healthy diet when cycling. Theoretical Foundation: Self Efficacy: • Students will use the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to motivate themselves to begin a cycling regimen. This will allow them to better understand the needs of their bodies and what they can do to live a healthier life style. Procedures 1. This course will be conducted in an E-Learning Environment which students will meet on a weekly basis. The course will also include a bi-monthly face-to-face meeting to put into practice what has been learned throughout the month about cycling. 2. The class size will vary however will be able to accommodate up to 15 students. 3. Students must get a release from their medical professionals since this course will include some physical activity. 4. Students will be tested on all the different aspects learned in the classroom about cycling, motivation, fitness, nutrition. 2.Students will also be tested on their ability to ride on the open road. Students will need to ride for 6 miles in order to show proficiency in cycling. Students must have all appropriate cycling gear at the time of their exam.
