Who are the AA's? : “I started out as a full-time student without work.
At that time my challenge was with familiarizing myself with the OU system. But sometime into the middle of my 2nd sem I started to feel right at home.
Recently however I went back to work full time and right now is my biggest challenge 'cuz I work full-time and I'm also a full-time mom without (without helpers or a yaya) and I also enrolled with a full load.” Who are the AA's?

Slide 25 : How about obstacles to your learning?
What actions do you take?
“I can say that most of the obstacles I've encountered
are FIC-related.”
“Time management and reminders on deadlines and schedules. Activities that are always tentative is always an issue for me as I am working …”
“There are FIC's that are hard to communicate with especially when we need to ask something regarding the subject. So what I did is ask my fellow classmates about my problem.”
Slide 26 : How about obstacles to your learning?
What actions do you take?
...“experiencing Moodle downtime”
“Work is a hindrance at least to my studies. However, I cannot manage to enroll without me needing to work due to high tuition fee. I cannot undergo scholarships because I cannot maintain grade requirements.”
Slide 27 : How about obstacles to you learning?
What actions do you take?
“Usually what I encounter is too much paper work that are given all at the same time especially when there are group work. I really have a hard time working with groups since not all the members cooperate well.”
"My not being a computer or tech savvy. This 1st sem and last 2nd sem I never expected to experience so much technical difficulties....I have learned quite a few technical troubleshooting techniques since then (^_^) ..”

Slide 28 : Questions so far?
Slide 29 : General Academic Advice # 1
Be REALISTIC.
Get real!
Take only the courses you will surely finish
within a semester
considering all other responsibilities.
This is to AVOID EXT's at all cost.
EXT=incomplete set of requirements=
hard to catch up with a busy Prof.
Slide 30 : General Academic Advice # 2
Be RESOURCEFUL!
UP is no place to be shy and helpless.
Access the correct information through:
LC=Learning Center Announcements
MyPortal=Virtual Classroom and
The UPOU Website
Find out all the email addresses you need,
Professors and classmates included.
Slide 31 : General Academic Advice # 3
COMMUNICATE well.
Communicate properly to your Profs,
UPOU Staff and Program Chair.
Cc: fed@upou.edu.ph
whenever necessary
Start and end your email properly.
Include your Full name and
Student number
At all times, AVOID using your PARENTS/ secretaries/ UP folks to communicate with us.
UPOU is not High School!
Slide 32 : # 4
Be sure and safe.
Always keep duplicate copies of
FMAs= Faculty Marked assignments
and all other requirements.
Make sure it has the receiving stamp of the LC.
Lost FMA's happen. General Academic Advice
Slide 33 : #5
Be literate.
Practice LITERACY at all times.
READ and UNDERSTAND,
FOLLOW instructions
before going to your Prof or
FIC=Faculty in Charge for clarification.
Make sure you have read carefully
your course guide and
contents of the course site. General Academic Advice
Slide 34 : Rule #6
Be responsible.
MONITOR your own course taking at all times.
All you have to do is
READ your academic catalogue.
KNOW the AA program structure.
REMEMBER the courses you have taken.
PLAN for the courses you still need to take. General Academic Advice
Slide 35 : #7
Be mindful.
Do not use your FB's nor blogs as your
'shock absorber' or punching bag
to complain about UPOU.
This will reflect poorly on you the most
and you may be putting down
the UPOU name unnecessarily.
Instead, be proactive.
Communicate using the right channels.
OR unload F2F to a real person..like “Prof V”. General Academic Advice
Slide 36 : #8
Be vigilant.
USE the academic calendar
to manage your time well.
Remember:
Exam dates
Deadline for filing of DRP
Deadline for Removals
Deadline for Clearing of Deficiencies
Deadline for Filing for Graduation
Remember ALL these alongside course
deadlines. General Academic Advice
Slide 37 : # 9
Accept your EXT's and do better next time.
Complete your requirements ASAP.
File for application for completion ASAP.
Your FIC's may decide to take a leave or be gone. Grades will be harder to get in this case. General Academic Advice
Slide 38 : General Academic Advice # 10
Do all of the above....
Make course completion
and graduation
your definite TARGETS!
