Introduction:
The higher education in India is faced with tough challenges in the recent times due to the growing international demand for talented people to work and manage organizations across the globe. While many nations are revising their higher education system and programmes by bringing suitable amendments to improve their supply of human capital in response to the International demand, the efforts in India has been inconsistent and marred by controversies partially due to political and self interest of educational businessmen. In this context, transformational teachers play a significant role in transforming the Indian higher education system to attain excellence with consistency without any controversy and confusion. Thus the Indian higher education system demands transformational teachers leader who can act as a catalyst to bring the necessary change in the policies and systems. However, there are number of critical issues that need to be addressed to develop transformational teachers leaders in the higher educational system as most of the existing teachers today were the product of the old system. Even intervention through teachers training programmes has its own limitations in making a transformational teachers leader because the role of a transformational teachers is multifaceted in nature.
