What are the challenges or demands of this profession? As an online teacher you must know the capability your PC or Laptop through which you expect to teach. General understanding about the important softwares on board. Understand basic maintenance of various utilities for optimal performance of PC Should be thoroughly acquainted with the internet and its resources for using them effectively in teaching. Must know how to use Email to its optimum limits. Should learn to sit in front a machine for at least an hour or two every day Enjoy one-2-one communication as opposed to lecturing a group of students in a classroom Be prepared to do a lot of writing / typing for lesson preparation Should have reasonable skills at touch typing without looking at the keyboard Be very comfortable with the tools / systems / programs to be used to teach online Be able to utilize all important features of MS Word effectively Must be proficient at using the MS PowerPoint effectively to produce telling presentations Should have reasonable know-how in using MS Excel Be able to visualise learner's dilemma & accordingly develop an instructional design for effective teaching of lessons online for the best possible learning outcome. Must be flexible in teaching approach and willing to experiment & collaborate with peer groups Must have basic familiarity with search tools in Search Engines to dig up subject related information from web Monitor, evaluate the quality of the online teaching programs being taught from an effective feedback from students or the learners Should become skilled at strategizing the integration of classroom instruction with online teaching Must have working knowledge of using the vocabulary of computer & internet, Chat, Skype, Pay Pal, Group discussions & blogs etc Should be adept at using the basic elements of online courses: email, threaded discussions, real-time interaction through electronic message boards, chat, audio, video conferencing tools on the web Must have reasonable familiarity with various online teaching platforms offering electronic Smart Boards for e-teaching in real time Just like in an actual classroom your English language diction should be loud & clear and intelligible to an ordinary listener. Similarly your English language listening skills particularly with British & American accents should be reasonably strong for teaching in an international environment. Ultimately your online teaching performance should approximate that of a real classroom lecture which means being able to get through your subject in an interesting way. .
