Description
Part 2: System of Government (Details of the next class)
We will talk about the structure of our government in India with a view on the parliamentary democracy, its functions, merits & demerits, reasons for adopting it etc. We will also talk about the Federal features of the Constitution along with the Unitary features of the Constitution. It is also important to understand the relationship between the center & state governments as defined in the constitution such as Legislative relations, administrative relations, financial relations & also the recent trends seen in there relations. How the interstate relations are defined will also be observed. Emergency provisions as defined in the constitution are one of the unique features of the Indian constitution making a somewhat federal form of government to completely a Unitary form, this gives enormous powers to the President of India. It is important to understand why such a provision was adopted in the constitution & also when & how emergency can be declared. No class on Indian constitution & form of government can be complete without understanding why there is a special status given to the state of Jammu & Kashmir & on what terms it acceded to India which will be discussed in brief.
