WHAT IS COPYRIGHT? : WHAT IS COPYRIGHT? COPYRIGHT IS A FORM OF PROTECTION THAT IS GIVEN TO AUTHORS OF WRITTEN WORKS.

WHY SHOULD WE CARE ABOUT COPYRIGHT? : WHY SHOULD WE CARE ABOUT COPYRIGHT? You work very hard on all of the projects you do in school. You take time and effort when you are writing poems and plays. Aren’t you proud of yourself when you are done with all of these exciting creations?
YOU SHOULD BE!!!!! : YOU SHOULD BE!!!!! You should be proud of all of the effort you put into your work! You have the RIGHT to control what people can and cannot do with your work. This is all part of COPYRIGHT!
We have to respect others too… : We have to respect others too… We have to respect the hard work of other people too. Creative people from all over the world have created painting, music, movies, books, and plays! The copyright protects people from copying their paintings, songs, movies, and stories!

HOW CAN I REGISTER A COPYRIGHT? : HOW CAN I REGISTER A COPYRIGHT? THIS IS THE EASY PART!
First you must complete an application. You can get an application at the following website: www.loc.gov/copyright.
You will need to pay a filing fee.
Finally, if able, you will need to send a nonreturnable copy.
**Send all three items together!

HOW LONG WILL MY COPYRIGHT LAST? : HOW LONG WILL MY COPYRIGHT LAST? Your copyright will last 70 years after you die but can not exceed 120 years!

Finally… : Finally… Think first before copying someone’s work! Think how you would feel if someone copied something that you worked so hard to do. You may be in fourth grade now, but in the future you may be the next Justin Beiber… and you won’t want anyone stealing your songs! And always remember… copyright infringement is ILLEGAL!
