: AS THE AUTHOR, YOU HAVE TO RIGHT TO: MAKE COPIES DISTRIBUTE COPIES PERFORM YOUR WORK PUBLICLY, SUCH AS MAKING IT INTO A PLAY DISPLAY YOUR WORK PUBLICLY *http://www.copyrightkids.org/cbasicsframes.htm

POWER : POWER AS THE AUTHOR OF YOUR WORK, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO CONTROL WHAT PEOPLE CAN AND CAN NOT DO.

WHY SHOULD WE CARE ABOUT COPYRIGHT? : WHY SHOULD WE CARE ABOUT COPYRIGHT? You work very hard on all of the projects you do in school. You take time and effort when you are writing poems and plays. Aren’t you proud of yourself when you are done with all of these exciting creations?

YOU SHOULD BE!!!!! : YOU SHOULD BE!!!!! You should be proud of all of the effort you put into your work! You have the RIGHT to control what people can and cannot do with your work. This is all part of COPYRIGHT!

We have to respect others too… : We have to respect others too… We have to respect the hard work of other people too. Creative people from all over the world have created painting, music, movies, books, and plays! The copyright protects people from copying their paintings, songs, movies, and stories! * http://www.copyrightkids.org/cbasicsframes.htm

FAIR USE : FAIR USE

FAIR USE : FAIR USE THIS WAS CREATED FOR US! THE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS!

Fair Use : Fair Use The fair use policy was created for students and teachers. In the schools we are able to “borrow” information without asking for permission. There are four basic guidelines when dealing with the fair use policy; nature, purpose, amount, and effect. * http://www.copyrightkids.org

PURPOSE : PURPOSE ACCEPTABLE- TEACHING, NEWS REPORTING, RESEARCH, COLLECTING DATA ILLEGAL- MAKING MONEY FROM THE SALE OF THE WORK. YOU DON’T GIVE CREDIT TO THE AUTHOR OF THE WORK.

AMOUNT : AMOUNT ACCEPTABLE- SMALL AMOUNT, THE WHOLE DOCUMENT OR PROJECT DOES NOT DEPEND ON THE INFORMATION ILLEGAL- LARGE AMOUNT USED, THE AMOUNT IS CRUCIAL TO THE SUCCESS OF THE WORK

NATURE : NATURE ACCEPTABLE- FACTUAL AND IT IS IMPORTANT TO EDUCATION. ILLEGAL- VERY CREATIVE WORKS SUCH AS PLAYS

EFFECT : EFFECT ACCEPTABLE- THERE IS AN OWNER TO THE WORK AND YOU CAUSE NO CHANGE OR EFFECT TO THEIR WORK ILLEGAL- MAKE AVAILABLE ON THE WEB OR MAKE MANY COPIES

COPYRIGHT & FAIR USE : COPYRIGHT & FAIR USE A VIDEO CREATED BY ERIC FADEN ABOUT COPYRIGHT AND FAIR USE…. A Fair(y) Use Tale http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJn_jC4FNDo

Finally… : Finally… Think first before copying someone’s work! Think how you would feel if someone copied something that you worked so hard to do. You may be in fourth grade now, but in the future you may be the next Justin Beiber… and you won’t want anyone stealing your songs! And always remember… copyright infringement is ILLEGAL!
