Audio Equipment for Recording : Audio Equipment for Recording

Other Recording Tools : Other Recording Tools Garage Band - http://www.apple.com/ilife/garageband/If you're using a Mac, this application comes free in the Apple iLife suite. I understand it's very similiar to Audacity in it's function and has some great tools for podcasting. Give it a try before downloading Audacity.Adobe Soundbooth - http://www.adobe.com/products/soundbooth/Adobe Soundbooth is part of the Adobe Master Collection Creative Suite 3. It's a professional audio recording and sound editing application. It integrates easily with other Adobe Software and seams fairly easy to use (at least as sound editing applications go). It has a lot of features and tools. If you have the Master Colleciton already you may try this application out before downloading Audacity.

Podcasts : Podcasts A podcast is a series of digital media (audio or vides) files that are created, uploaded to a web server distributed using syndication feeds (RSS). The word podcasting is a combination of "ipod" and "broadcast". I like the definition "Portable On-Demand Broadcasting"

Podcast Directories : Podcast Directories http://www.odeo.com/ - very large internet based directory of podcast and vodcastodeo player can easily be embedded into web page, blog, or course management system Education Podcast Network: http://www.epnweb.org/ - collection of wide range of academic podcast programs iTunes - to search this directory you must have iTunes installed on the computer http://www.learn-on-the-go.com/directory/ - directory of education and training podcasts - directed towards adult learning/ self-education

RSS : RSS Really Simple Syndication Rich Site Summary A type of XML which allows Internet browsers and other feed readers to display information from the file.

Podcatchers (aggregators) : Podcatchers (aggregators) Software or an online application that can read rss. There aggregators or news readers that only read text based feeds and some that only read audio. Some do both.

Podcatchers (aggregators) : Podcatchers (aggregators) iTunes - software you download to your computer that allows you to both search a directory of podcast and subscribe/ download the podcasts. http://www.netvibes.com/ - web service that brings together your favorite media sources and online services. http://www.bloglines.com/ - allows you to subscribe to a variety of text and audio based RSS feeds. http://www.mediafly.com - create an account, search and subscribe to podcasts, download your podcasts to your mobile devices. http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net Google.com – google reader and igoogle both do text based rss feeds.

Creating a Podcast : Creating a Podcast 1.) Plan your Podcast (title and description). 2.) Plan your first Episode. Write a script or outline in a text processor for your first episode. You can use this text file as your transcript and it'll make recording much easier if you have a script in front of you. 3.) If you want a music introduction or ending. Find a podsafe music audio file to use. a.) Search pod safe audio at free sites like: http://www.soundsnap.com/ or http://www.podsafeaudio.com/. 4.) Record/ mix your Audio. See the Audio page for more information on using Audacity to record. Some of the all-in-1 podcasting sites provide the ability to record.

Creating a Podcast : Creating a Podcast 5.) Output your audio file as an mp3 file. Upload it to a streaming server (many of the all-in-1 podcast sites do all this for you). There are many free storage sites for audio files. 6.) Index the file (create the RSS feed/ file or update the RSS for a new episode) so that users can subscribe to your audio files. With the first episode you'll create an RSS file (this will have all the details of the podcast) then as you add a new episode (mp3 file), the RSS file will be updated. Many of the all-in-1 podcast sites do this automatically. There are many tools available to assist in creating and updating the RSS file. b.) You can burn your RSS feed (this gives you better statistics and it provides easier ways for the users to subscribe to your podcast) at http://www.feedburner.com/. This is an optional step. 7.) Submit your RSS feed to directories like iTunes, odeo and others. Again, some of the all-in-1 podcast sites do this for you or give you an easy form to do this.

Podcasting Tools : Podcasting Tools Podcasting Legal Guide at Creative Commons website - roadmap of some of the legal issues specific to podcasting: using music, using content written by someone else, relevance of copyright laws,etc.. http://www.podsafeaudio.com/ - music that you can use in your podcasts - choose a song, choose the "Podsafe Mashup" and download the mp3. Have a look at the "Terms of Service" at the bottom of the page. http://ourmedia.org/ - tool to upload, store and publish media files http://www.podscope.com/ - search engine that searches the spoken word for audio & video Gcast - http://www.gcast.com/Create a free podcast. Record the audio with a computer and mic or by your cell phone. Edit the audio and add in music. http://www.podbean.com/ - all-in-1 podcasting site.
