Description
Conventional delivery of professional development to teachers has traditionally not shown a significant effect on professional practices and/or dispositions. In this presentation, a new framework will be introduced that holds the promise of delivering results to in-service teachers, their schools, and their student populations. This framework is designed to let teachers' awareness of their professional needs drive professional development experiences by using a variety of technology tools, synchronous, as well as asynchronous human interactions and mentoring. Further, this framework will discuss how technology will aid the establishment of professional learning communities and how such professional learning communities can be part of professional development.
For the purpose of this presentation, the Framework will be introduced in the area of English as a Second Language, specifically to mainstream teachers in the US who are trying to accommodate the needs of non-English speaking populations. However, the framework can be transferred to other disciplines, industries, and countries.
